Give thanks this holiday season with some of South Florida’s most popular restaurants and caterers, where you can kick back, feast with your family and friends, and let one of the Magic City’s top chefs do the cooking. Boasting seasonal menus curated just for Thanksgiving Miami 2018, these culinary standouts reach every corner of Miami and beyond, from Key Biscayne and Coconut Grove, to Brickell, Miami Beach, South Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Whether you want to eat out, or gather your loved ones and stay in, here are our favorite places and ways to break bread this Thanksgiving season. Part 1 is restaurants and part 2 is caterers and takeout.
More different things to do in November, Don de Fleurs gift idea for those who love roses, new free service in Coconut Grove, and elegant cuff links as a homage to Miami, all in Karen's Kudos this month.
It seems like every month another taco place opens in Miami. Many are very similar in menu and décor, as in rustic, with an open kitchen, and not much in style. Not so with the very successful Mexican born and bred La Cerveceria de Barrio which opened in late August. I can easily see why it’s so successful – a seafood slant, original menu items which hail from seven regions in Mexico, very good service, and a casual décor that’s “alegre” (joyful) and fun. Plus, for my taste, the guac is the best in town, which you can team up with housemade corn tortillas. Plus, there's a 20% discount for Miami Dade county residents!
As you’ve probably read, Dunkin Donuts is dropping the “donuts” in its name and who knows what else. But donut lovers near fear. There are plenty and I mean plenty of donut places to choose from. The Salty Dog, Mojo Donuts, Honeybee Donuts, Lovely Donuts, Velvet Creme and of course Krispy Kreme (did I leave out any?). Business must be good, as Salty Dog and Mojo are expanding with new outposts to come this year in South Miami. Though as good as all these are, my newest favorite by far is Happy Place Donuts on Espanola Way In Miami Beach. And would you believe they have ham and roasted turkey donut sandwiches, donut sandwiches and sundaes and more!
Crystal, the winner of the MiamiCurated contest, “cashed in” on her prize, dinner with yours truly this week. And was it ever a magnifique 7 course gastronomic event! Check out the images below. And note the prix fixe dinner is open to the public tonight through Saturday and for the $65 ++ price, a great value.
Do you know where Immokalee is? I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t. It’s in Collier County on the West Coast of Florida. Population 24K+, it’s an agricultural region populated by seasonal workers and immigrants, and happens to be one of the poorest areas in the state. Now, thanks to the benefit corporation, Taste of Immokalee (TOI), there's an uplifting, hopeful story that's tied in with delicious sauces and salsa that are sold in Publix.
The season is heating up, with more things to do in Miami by the day and night. Our picks this month range from a Collectors Weekend at Bal Harbour Shops, Doral Food and Wine Festival, first ever Celebrity Soccer Beach Match and Le Diner en Blanc to the book fair with the likes of Tina Brown. And then there are special foodie and film events and concerts. We love them—and we think you will, too!
So much going on in October, I had to do Eating News in two parts! One of Miami's favorites, Estiatorio Milos rolls out a monthly Winemaker's Table Dinner, Two Star Michelin Chef of Paris' Mr. T teams up with another accliamed chef Frederic Joulin for a four day French gastronomic adventure, Asian Night Brunch, review of new Italian restaurant that could be plucked out of Naples, another new Italian venture but in Wynwood, all this and more this month.
It's that time again for the South Beach Seafood Festival, new specialty stone crab delivery service that charges less for one of Miami's favorite foods, Cuban bakery comes to Miami via Vedado, olive oils of Spain popup at MIA, and a new Shake Shack in Ft.Lauderdale with new menu items, Part 1.
