An addition to my list of favorite restaurants in Miami  is newcomer Ro Steakhouse in Coral Gables. Not only does it do traditional steakhouse fare to a T and have a handsome decor and excellent service, but the clincher – additional dishes that are inspired by its Mexican roots, honed after successful years at the company’s two restaurants in Merida (130 Steakhouse and Cienfuegos). Plus, its Head Chef, Marcelo Palacios hails from Prime 112 and other leading steakhouses. Two of its dishes will join my list of the best dishes and best desserts of 2025.
Amazonico on Brickell Avenue is THE restaurant and nightspot to top now in Miami. I know that’s saying a lot, but it’s well deserved. My friend and I were wowed. It’s the fifth Amazonico worldwide, and the most elaborate, joining its sisters in Monte Carlo, Dubai, Madrid (the first) and London. The Spanish owners spared no expense, as in an estimated cost of construction and décor of $30 to $40 million, and spent it well. The three story restaurant, lounge, rooftop bar joining 4 other bars, impressive private dining rooms and now nightclub has only been open since October 27 and on a recent Saturday night there was a waiting list of 1000 couples.
You long time readers know by now that I love desserts (and many of you do too judging by all the views my dessert posts get). Not only do I love desserts, but I crave something sweet at the end of the meal. So, you ask, how do I reconcile that with my need to watch the calories?  When I’m in a restaurant, the answer is having a taste of the dessert, but at home there’s another strategy: find delicious low cal desserts. I’m happy to share the list and pictures of my favorite lowest calorie desserts. Calorie count? Only  40 to 130 calories. They’re a big hit, too, at dinner parties.
A choice Thanksgiving dinner pick (eat in or take out), restaurant openings, El Cuban Diner, baguette and croissant making classes, and soba nights, all in Eating News for November 2025.

My award for classy happy hour goes to Lafayette Steakhouse. How so? The ambiance is sophisticated, the service impeccable, the food selection refined, not to speak of delicious. And it’s a top value given the price and quality, offered Tuesday through Saturday. My discriminating friend about town was impressed too. Stay tuned to the end of the blogpost for the recipe for the Hugo Spritz.
