Ro Steakhouse Delivers Traditional Steakhouse Excellence with a Mexican Twist

An addition to my list of favorite restaurants in Miami  is newcomer Ro Steakhouse in Coral Gables. Not only does it do traditional steakhouse fare to a T and have a handsome decor and very good service, but the clincher – additional dishes that are inspired by its Mexican roots, honed after successful years at the company’s two restaurants in Merida, Mexico (130 Steakhouse and Cienfuegos). Plus, its Head Chef, Marcelo Palacios hails from Prime 112 and other leading steakhouses. Two of its dishes will join my list of the best dishes and best desserts of  2025. Plus, they offer a daily lunch special!

Unlike a number of other steakhouses in town, this is not a party scene, nor is its décor traditional clubby steakhouse. It features contemporary architecture infused with a liberal use of natural materials – bronze, stone and wood, and a touch of glam with orange fluorescent swirls of lighting. In its 7000 square feet it accommodates 130 guests indoors in its main dining along with private and semi private dining rooms, a cool 10 seat bar, and soon to come by the end of this year, an outdoor terrace.

Steak is the main event, both grass and corn fed, 11 varieties including a kosher ribeye served with an option of a choice of sauces. The menu is divided into hot and cold starters (for two), raw bar, soups and salads, sauces, tacos and tostadas, seafood, prime steaks, specialties, side orders (for two), and desserts.

Ribeye chicharron

My friend started with the ribeye chicharron, one of my best dishes of the year. Chunks of the super crispy chicharron were served atop creamy guacamole which you then spoon onto fire roasted tortillas with salsa cruda. Amazing. I opted for the grilled artichoke hearts with roasted sweet pepper sauce, a good size portion and very tasty. The ribeye was my main course – perfectly charred, tender and oh so flavorful, which I accompanied with grilled broccolini with Chiltepin chili flakes, lemon zest and Maldon salt.

Truffle risotto with lobster

My friend had one of the specialties at Ro Steakhouse, truffle risotto made with white truffle cream and parmesan sauce. Loved this feature — for the one price you can choice your protein – beef tenderloin, lobster or scallops. We chose the lobster, a good portion of plump, tender chunks served on top.

Dessert was the other wow: what looked like a corn on the cob complete with a few stalks was actually corn mousse filled with dulce de leche and topped with lemon crumble.

What other dishes caught my eye for next time which will surely come (and soon) are the beef wellington, rock shrimp, branzino chicharron, octopus carpaccio, pistachio crusted tuna, and the scallions mac and cheese.

It has an impressive wine cellar with an extensive collection of vintages from the around the world. Besides that, they offer a membership program with 20 private lockers where members can keep their favorite bottles – whiskey, wine, or any spirit of choice. And, as you can imagine, there’s a very good selection of tequilas and mezcals. Cocktails range in price from $12 to $18.
