Rather than the obvious major art fairs, here are my picks for other events and happenings at Art Basel Miami 2019. Check them out: “hot’ new Wynwood store described as a “retail destination and culture creator”, art week workshop and private tours, two of my favorite ‘other’ art fairs, stylish shopping and art nail popups at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, and new private art museums opening this week. Note the first event is this Sunday!
A unique French Caribbean lifestyle pop-up boutique has come to Wynwood, and it’s well worth a visit. But note it’s only here until this Sunday. Find some of the leading and most creative fashion, beauty and cosmetic brands of Martinique and Guadalupe. I ended up buying an eye catching long white dress with a fitted bodice and flaired skirt and matching bandeau bathing suit that could be from Balenciaga or Prada at a fifth of the price. Then there’s handsome resort footwear, a natural cosmetics line, and perfume and scents label. Loved the sunglasses and straw beach bags, too. Have a look:
Lots of “finds” this month, everything from an important tip about conserving photos and art, indulgent new fragrances from popular singer and songwriter Thalia, and buying fashion on instagram to a top spot for childrens’ clothes and baby gifts. Also, Alexa comes to Miami’s pool party scene and a valuable travel tip.
It’s that time again, spa lovers! Miami Spa Month 2019 when spa treatments and services typically costing $200+ are reduced to set prices as low as $99 along with value added features ranging from a hair and scalp treatment and beach chair to water features, discounts on other beauty services, and tai chi and yoga classes. We’ve narrowed down all the offerings and curated a list of 11 spas just for you, including one in Hollywood. Happy Spa Month this August (and one hotel offers September as well)! And if you’re reading this outside of spa month, these are great spa picks anytime of year.
Summer is a great time to check out the latest beauty treatments and start a new routine to get in shape for “the season”. My hairdresser, the super talented Steven Schmidt who has coiffed the super models at Fashion Weeks from Milan to New York and Paris Couture, moved to a new salon and medspa, Danny Jelaca. He told me about the cutting edge skin treatments for men and women and uber mani pedis, and said it is one of the best hair salons in Miami, so off I went to South Beach to check them out.
Wonderful is the only way to describe Upper Buena Vista. It’s described by the architects as a “community driven lifestyle destination where specialty retail, hospitality and wellness coalesce, embracing Miami’s culture and injecting it with global flare”. Picture this: lush vegetation and huge trees including an 80 year old banyan tree, their leafy canopies almost embracing the single story shops ressembling Japanese temples, thatched roof huts , and expansive windows that allow you to look into the fashion and décor finds inside. And finds there are, in 21 tasteful retail shops, including micro and petite boutiques. The concept is to offer affordable space for emerging designers and entrepreneurs. Then there are the complementary services – food, coffee bar, cryotherapy, hair, nails and beauty bar, tattoos and more. Here’s a short rundown of my favorites (and there were plenty), with a short description of each. This is not to be missed.
Long lasting lipstick. For years companies have claimed to have the one that works, but I haven’t seen the results. Who has the time (or remembers) to constantly touch up lipstick, let alone have a pocket mirror to do hourly lipstick checks. Enter Kylie Jenner whose social media network is getting her close to being the youngest self made billionaire based on her cosmetics line. For long lasting lipsticks, she has her Posie K and Candie K lines. Another contender is the more popularly priced hot brand out of California, ColourPop. I decided to do a test of both. My criteria– no stains, smudges, and that it be long lasting.

Miami Spa Month 2018 when spa treatments and services typically costing $200+ are reduced to set prices as low as $109 along with value added features ranging from fitness classes, and extra treatments to your own tiki hut on the beach. New this year is hot addition, The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel and Residences at The Surf Club. We’ve narrowed down all the offerings and curated a list of ten just for you. Happy Spa Month or actually months since it’s for July and August.
