Ever since I heard the team behind favorite and hot spot Tam Tam opened popup Double Luck Chinese in North Miami, I’ve been trying to get a reservation with the only possibilities around 9:30 or 10 pm. Happily, with Miami quiet these days, spots have opened up at all hours so off we went and saw why it’s such a  success that they’re planning to make it a permanent restaurant. Why is it special? Exciting and different menu of Sichuan cuisine, fair prices, attentive service, and a colorful ambiance that’s a little like a speakeasy.
August but the beat keeps on in food happenings in Miami including popular new spot Nami Nori,  New York chef of the moment Kwame Onwuachi of Tatiana comes to Miami, great lunch deal off the radar screen, new Italian restaurant on  Brickell, mezcal classes in Little Havana and more, all in Eating News.

Food as couture, that’s what my fellow foodie and star fashion executive guest called the food experience at Matsuyoi, besides saying how delicious it all was. Then there’s the minimalist décor made with luxe materials and a lovely color scheme of sea moss and green and a departing gift, a slice of house baked sesame banana bread. I totally agreed, taking it one step further by saying it’s the best Japanese restaurant in Miami. The talent behind this is Chef-Partner Takahiro Sakaeda, alongside his two partners Jihan Lee and Lisa Limb who went out on their own after ten years at three star Michelin restaurant Masa in New York City. Good news! They're offering Miami Spice!
Before my departure for my annual summer holiday, I checked out a trio of Miami Spice 2025 offerings for dinner. I chose to go to places I've been before and liked a lot and wanted to see if the Spice offering matched the usual high quality a la carte menu and if it offered solid value. The answer was a definite "yes" on these three: one a non traditional Japanese, another a new French newcomer to Miami and the third, a perennial high end Miami favorite. Good news, they're all $60 for a several course prix fixe. In case you missed my earlier post listing the over 300 restaurants participating in Miami Spice 2025, click here.
