If you’ve been thinking of experiencing omakase or it’s a favorite, put Sushi by Bou Miami on your list. Last week was my first time at an omakase restaurant. Though, as you know, I’m a fish lover, I don’t like, shall we say, exotic specimens (sea urchin, eel, etc) and didn’t want to pay over a hundred dollars to try it. I found out I was wrong on both counts and now you’ll see me going back multiple times. Omakase means “I’ll leave it up to you” and originated as Japanese street food. It's a chance to interact with the chef, in this case in an intimate and attractive space, a menu adapted to your needs and likes, and a fair price.
How do you like the sound of a top flight, freshly made meal of Asian American food you make at home just when you want it, for about $60 for three servings? How about a gift idea for foodies?  Much better than takeout, it’s a new product line from fresh online market Good Eggs and star chef David Chang of the  Momofuku group of restaurants and eateries. Momofuku at Home as it’s called, features Chang’s  Asian American cult classics with signature sauces and a seasonal assortment of meal kits. I tried two of the entrees at home, following their super easy instructions along with everything, and I mean everything you need for the meal – from herbs and special salt and seasonings, to fresh vegetables and proteins. It was truly like eating in one of Chang’s restaurants at a fraction of the price.
When I heard that INK Entertainment, the Canadian powerhouse group behind favorites Byblos, Amal and Level 6 Rooftop were opening Sofia Miami,  an Italian restaurant in the Palm Court of the Design District, I knew it would be a winner. And indeed it is, from the chic glamorous European design in jewel tones and refined Italian fare to the excellent service and contemporary art gracing the walls. There’s a lovely outdoor area too, imagined as a secret garden, with flamingo pink lacquered pieces, teak furnishings, modernized peacock chairs and rose umbrellas. It's a perfect place for the holidays, enjoy a wonderful meal and then enjoy all the fashion eye candy with some window shopping!
The dinner with INTUEAT chef Ben Schrank will go down as one of my best of the year. It was comparable to a seven-course eating extravaganza that I previously enjoyed at the hands of a two-star Michelin chef in Cabo San Lucas. A difference? In the case of the former, I was able to collaborate on choosing the menu with the chef, and it was prepared and served in my apartment for a party of four. It all happened because of INTUEAT, a luxury on-demand dining platform featuring private chefs in Miami and South Florida.
Surrounded by all things garden like and pink,  from the floral wallpaper and flower bedecked windows to the café tables with fresh floral bouquets, I felt transported to a world of fantasy and loveliness. It’s Titia’s Tea Room, the passion of Cynthia Legrand . She is the creator, owner, decorator, and talented baker of the decadent pastries, tea sandwiches and scones. Titia, as she likes to be known, was born in New York from a Belgian father and English mother which is why she has tea running through her veins. She also does tea parties in homes or offices, kids parties, and even arranges for fascinator hats for women and panama hats for men!!!
Whether you're looking for entertainment, art and culture, or food and beverage, here are some choice picks of things to do for the rest of this month and next. Enjoy! And Happy Thanksgiving!
In AIDA in Coconut Grove a mural for which this restaurant is named is what the owner Eduardo Gavilan calls his sea goddess. And sure enough, her blessings for standout seafood have worked. This is a seafood restaurant with not only the freshest fish, but also, exciting preparations inspired by Mexico’s regional cuisines  at the direction of the simpatico and talented Chef and Manager Mauricio Hernandez. Never fear if you don’t want fish, there’s also a “not from the sea” section with a to die for pork belly taco, beef tataki and other appealing selections.
The first ever Miami Farmer’s Month, a Dark Brunch, deals at hot spot Sexy Fish, new restaurants on the horizon, and the Palm Beach Food and Wine Festival food extravaganza, all in Eating News for November.
My Way Italian Steakhouse is a steakhouse with much welcome twists. It’s billed as an Italian steakhouse but not only because of what you’d think -- its regional Italian dishes. There’s a large locker displaying the cuts of dry aged prime beef at the entrance along with a wood burning oven dishing up delicious house made focaccia and tiramisu, along with pizza, pastas,  and more. “Italian” also stands for the restaurant being inspired by Frank Sinatra, whose parents hailed from Genoa and Sicily. Find some of his favorite dishes and the crooner’s songs in the background, including arguably his most famous “My Way”. It’s also a rare kind of restaurant in the Magic City with its white starched tablecloths but no glitz, low level music,  super friendly and low key professional staff who go out of their way to please, and the comfortable vibe. We went to celebrate Mr. W’s birthday and returned with the family a few weeks later and liked it even more.
