Today more than ever, Miami is a foodie destination. But despite how much it has grown, at the heart of the city, diners will still find that classic, local fare that has become part of its heritage: Latin cuisine. From Nicaraguan and Cuban restaurants, to Puerto Rican delicacies, Dominican flavors and Salvadoran plates—all in restaurants spread across Miami—here are our top five spots for a variety of authentic Latin food in the Magic City.
Dashi Miami, the new 80 seat Japanese restaurant that opened as part of the River Yacht Club, showed up on my radar screen through its stunning food images on Instagram. The reality lived up to my expectations as I discovered on a recent visit to this culinary temple of Executive Chef Shuji Hiyakawa a protégé of Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto (and for my taste, a protégé that has possibly surpassed his mentor).
Eating News May, Part 2 brings a top spot for ice cream just in time for summer, a lobster salad that's healthy, low cal and delicious from Lukes Lobster Miami, Nespresso's decaf lungo, and home made tomato sauces that will spruce up any protein or pasta dish. For Part 1 click here:

A $25,000 USD taco? Yes, you read right. It's yours at the uber luxe Grand Velas Los Cabos in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. I'm proud to say that the idea for the world's most expensive taco was that of yours truly (my public relations firm). The brilliant execution is owed to the resort's Executive Chef Juan Licerio Alcala. So what's in this taco, what's a fitting rare tequila to go with it, and has anyone bought it?

All of a sudden there seems to be one new Italian restaurant after another opening, the way Asian themed ones seemed to be the culinary category du jour in the past few years. Most are pizzerias + limited entrée offerings with regional cuisines of Liguria, Naples, and Tuscany well represented . Now we have a very different Italian culinary experience with the family owned and operated Via Emilia 9 in South Beach. Walk in the door and you’ll find yourself transported to an authentic eatery in Emilia Romagna, the land known for its gourmet products ranging from balsamic vinegar and parmigiano reggiano to prosciutto, lasagna, bolognese sauce, mortadella.

Love lobster? Lobster Bar Sea Grille, a new entry to Miami’s upscale restaurants, offers the top of the line blue hard shell crustacean from Nova Scotia, no fewer than nine ways and up to 4 pounds. Think everything from ceviche, a chili variety and with pasta to lightly fried, steamed, stuffed, surf and turf, and in a seafood tower. Whole fresh fish, too, that you can choose from the display on ice, their skin glistening with freshness, and USDA prime steaks. All this in an ambiance that evokes the Oyster Bar in New York City’s Grand Central Station with its white subway tiles, arched ceilings, mahogany walls and art deco inspired chandeliers. A most welcome addition to the Magic City’s dining scene.
