Fabulous Friday – $25K Taco

A $25,000 USD taco? Yes, you read right. It’s yours at the uber luxe Grand Velas Los Cabos in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. I’m proud to say that the idea for the world’s most expensive taco was that of yours truly (my public relations firm). The brilliant execution is owed to the resort’s  Executive Chef Juan Licerio Alcala. So what’s in this taco, what’s a fitting rare tequila to go with it,  and has anyone bought it? And if you want to check out the resort that made it all happen, I’m offering special rates for readers!

The tortilla is filled with langoustine, Kobe beef, Almas Beluga caviar from Iranian albino sturgeon that sells for $34,500, and instead of traditional queso (cheese), a black truffle brie. Then there’s the salsa which features Morita chili peppers, ultra-premium Ley .925 tequila and civet coffee, the coffee that’s pooped out by jungle creatures.  It’s all topped off with gold leaf, and you’ve got a dish that’s the price of a car.

If you want to really go all out you can pair the taco with a $150,000 white gold and platinum bottle of Ley .925 Pasión Azteca Ultra Premium Añejo tequila.

Now I know you’re wondering if anyone has bought it. Yes, at a charity raffle at the resort in Cabo. At the event, La Ley tequila presented their $3.5 million USD Ley Diamante which is already promised to a sheik in Abu Dhabi. The handmade tequila bottle, “Ley Diamante,” has 3.725 kilos of .925 pure platinum and 4100 diamonds for an incredible total of 328.59 carats. From design to completion, it took ten months to make and weighs close to 18 pounds. The tequila itself is extra aged, a unique blend of 3, 6 and 9 year old, white oak Barrels, 100% agave, 42% alcohol (84 proof), from the company’s own Los Altos de Jalisco Plantations, where the best tequilas in the world are made. Not surprisingly, the bottle was under glass and watched by security guards on both sides.

Tequila La Ley Diamante $3.5 million USD

Proceeds of the taco raffle totaled $27,960. The lucky winner had it split in half and proclaimed it totally delicious.

Grand Velas Los Cabos is the newest of the uber all inclusive Velas Resorts. It opened late last year with five gourmet restaurants and a two star Michelin chef from Amsterdam. If you’re looking for a vacation spot, we can get you friends and family rates at 30% off, and this time of year it’s off season prices. Alas, no special deal on the taco.
