M&V Cafe, A Gem

M&V Cafe isn’t the kind of restaurant you usually find in Miami. It has a family vibe, not surprising since the the chef and his wife are the owners and work in tandem, he in the kitchen and she waiting on tables and charming the patrons. Plus, it’s neither a single cuisine nor fusion. It offers traditional French specialties, the favorites, along with house made pasta and other Italian dishes. Why the mix? Chef Fabrice Di Rienzo was born in France, worked with French greats Bernard Loiseau, Paul Bocuse and Daniel Boulud, but his grandmother was Italian and taught him all about Italian cuisine which he also loves. The food is delicious and it’s the kind of place you’ll go back to, where you feel comfortable and get solid value. All my picky friends have loved it. Plus, they have an amazing lunch special for $14.50.

New + Best Portuguese Restaurant in Miami

I  have to admit, I’m sort of tired of just seeing branzino and salmon as fish choices on restaurant menus. So it was a much welcome change to discover new Portuguese seafood restaurant Seasins, with not only new fish choices, but also, exciting preparations. The Portuguese know their seafood. But never fear carnivores, there are very appealing meat selections too. They’re in a neighborhood in SoFi where there’s serious competition, so they need to be at the top of their game. And they are, the best Portuguese restaurant in Miami. Plus, they offer very good value and a terrific lunch special so you can try it out before making the commitment for dinner.

The owner, sourcer and person of exquisite taste is Yeliz Tetiz, who travels the world discovering contemporary treasures in home décor, men and women’s fashion, and jewelry. It’s best described as a Concept Store. Sharing the space with the retail offerings is an inviting café with tropical flair that opens onto the street. Though just open for two months, it’s already a hot ticket. Expect Yeliz’s stylish touches, even in the café. A coffee is not just a coffee. It’s served on a silver tray with a piece of Turkish delight candy. Order a glass of wine or cocktail and it comes with a dish of nibbles.

Brickell is becoming a serious dining destination . Recently, on the heels of Hutong, comes Osaka showcasing Peruvian Nikkei cuisine. This is the first US outpost of the restaurant group which hails from multiple locations in South America.
