I’ve been very busy this month coming up with these wonderful Miami insider tips for February. We’re talking everything from complimentary Rose happy hour for ladies at Novikov, a serious new ManCave with the works, and Little Havana’s first rooftop bar and eatery, to a costume jewelry repair pro, terrific musical at M Ensemble Company on through February 23, and more.
Novikov, the downtown Miami haute spot is pouring complimentary glasses of Rosé every Wednesday night from 6- 8 PM (at the bar only). Ladies can make their grand entrance inside the high-energy setting and sit along the polished bar admiring views of the colorful vegetable and seafood market or surrounding the curated art collection. Rosé selections will also rotate weekly. In theme with their happy hour, guests can double up and enjoy $8 cocktails and bar bites from their ‘Social Hours.’ Every weekday from 5-7 PM. Dishes include signature favorites like King Crab Spring Rolls, Shishito Peppers and Soft Shell Crab. Novikov, 300 S.Biscayne Blvd.
One of my most valued recent finds is Judi S. Koslen who repairs costume jewelry, makes custom fine jewelry, and teaches classes that are open to the public at the Key Biscayne Community Center. She does no advertising, doesn’t do the internet or cell phones, and she has had a thriving practice for over forty years through word of mouth. That speaks volumes for her work and prices! I took a bag full of costume jewelry for her to fix, everything from necklaces to earrings, and she came through in flying colors. Her classes at the Center can include pearl knotting, wiring, Indian weaving and beading. You can reach her at 305-361-7057 or call the Key Biscayne Community center for information on the classes.

Grooming services include haircuts and trims, shaves, color, hand and foot grooming, waxing and teeth whitening. During their experience, clients are offered a complimentary cocktail from the Jaxson Maximus signature beverage bar and to shoot a round of pool or hit a bullseye on their championship dartboard to win a Jaxson Maximus gift card! Find cool, over-the-top boyish accents such as a suspended Formula One racecar, owned by Italian racing legend Alex Zanardi, a vintage 1970 Honda Cafe ́ Racer and a custom James Bond inspired mural created by local artist Claudio Picasso. Jaxson Maximus, 100 Brickell Bay Drive #106.
New rooftop bar, Miami’s first for Little Havana . To enjoy Miami’s peak outdoor weather, Life House Hotel’s Little Havana location has debuted the neighborhood’s only rooftop bar and eatery, Terras (528 SW 9th Avenue). The tropical inspired bar and restaurant boasts Miami views, and features a menu with breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, with the kitchen open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The menu emphasizes shareable dishes with, not surprising, Latin American street food influences. Of course there are also plenty of drinks on the menu, most of which utilize the ingredients from the rooftop’s on-site garden. Keeping with the tropical theme are cocktail options like the Mezcalyfan made with mezcal, rum, and pineapple; and the Furiosa created with tequila, Aperol, falernum, lime, and hellfire bitters. It also offers a wine program with vintages produced in Spain and Latin America along with a rotating list of local beers.
A wonderful evening out is a rollicking, musical performance of Ain’t Misbehavin by the M Ensemble Company and it’s playing until February 23. It’s non stop singing, dancing, and strutting of music by the legendary jazz pianist virtuoso, organist, composer and performer, Thomas Wright “Fats Waller”. He had hits such as “The Joint is Jumpin”, “Honeysuckle Rose” and “I Love You But Your Feets Too Big”.You’ll be singing along, clapping and dancing in your seat, and even better yet, it’s a very reasonable $30 for a ticket! I had been to the M Ensemble Company a number of years ago and was delighted to see it in a modern, spacious new theater with its own bar. It’s the oldest existing African American theater company in the State of Florida. For more information and reservations, click here. M Ensemble Company, 6103 N.W.7th Avenue.
Kudos to Nespresso for providing bags with a prepaid UPS label to return used capsules. They’re free, and the bags fold up to nothing, so they’re light and don’t take up room in a handbag!
