I can't say I judge a restaurant by its bread, but if the bread is exceptional, it creates an impression and helps put the restaurant in the "memorable" category. As you know, unfortunately most restaurants don't offer bread. And usually, the ones that do you have to pay for it, as much as $15. But in some cases, it's worth it. Here's a list of the restaurants that, if you go there, be sure to order the bread and why it's special. Now the butter can also be part of the experience on restaurant breads.
Is it the MILA pedigree, the resurgent popularity of French food, or maybe the low-key glam Miami meets the Cote d’Azur ambiance that has made the newly opened CLAUDIE a hot ticket? Most likely it’s all three at CLAUDIE, the new  high end Brickell restaurant that features the cuisine of France’s Cote d’Azur headed by Chef Michaël Michaelidis whose career includes Le Louis XV-Alain Ducasse and Joël Robuchon. We went there for dinner and really enjoyed it – the delicious food and appealing menu, friendly and professional service and attractive setting.
Byblos Miami Beach was one of the first high end restaurants here serving Eastern Mediterranean food and wines. I visited shortly after it opened in 2017, loved it, and went back numerous times. Many Eastern Med places later, we returned to try out the enticing new menu and to see if it was as good as I remembered it. Bottom line, the food was even better, Plus, there’s a lovely outdoor terrace with a low music level, ideal for conversation. And at the end there's the ultimate recipe for roasted cauliflower from the chef!
A Donatella Versace hotel and restaurant opens on the Beach, Indian food comes to Brickell,  return of a Peruvian classic in the Gables, and a lovely garden spot to enjoy this glorious weather at a new French brasserie all in Eating News for April '25 - Part 2.  If you missed Part 1, click here.
Having spent several weeks in Greece every summer for the past few years and our being regulars at Eastern Med restaurants in Miami, we know something about Greek food and tavernas and tend to be especially picky on that score. We had an inkling that Theos Estiatorio, named for its Greek owner, would be very good so we set out on an early Saturday evening to Fort Lauderdale exclusively to try it out. And happy we were that we did.  In its décor, friendly service, traditional menu, especially wonderful fish, and music that makes you want to dance, Theos is a great taverna. Probably no surprise given the pedigree of its chef, who was the first chef at Milos in New York.
Nifty Sunday jazz and dinner event in Overtown, Veuve Clicquot champagne happy hour ($5) in the Brickell area,  a great new entry for the Dadeland area, Le Jardinier colab with Paradise Farms , and more foodie news  all in Eating News in April -  Part 1.
When it opened in South Beach, STK was the first of the non-traditional clubby steakhouses (click here for my review). And the newest one, STK Aventura also has what they call “vibe” dining with a casual club-like decor, besides the quality prime Angus and Wagyu beef and a selection of primo seafood that you’d expect, but there’s much more. It also follows in its “sister’s” footsteps with an amazing deal for happy hour and another great one called “steak night” which the winner of my blog contest, Armando, and I thoroughly enjoyed for his first prize award. Looking to take advantage of your drive to Aventura and make it a day? Stay tuned to the end for my post on a Day in Aventura.
An anniversary, wedding, corporate event or a child's milestone birthday coming up and need a caterer? Or maybe just a cocktail party or dinner at home or a kosher event? Here are my 6 picks for top Miami caterers:
The newly opened Oro is going to give some competition to its classy neighbor MILA, one of my perennial favorites. Though they’re both classically elegant and rooftop restaurants, Oro has a glam element with its entrance of arches covered in gold and royal blue and gold décor elements. And then there’s the richly inventive menu that delivers on presentation and taste, the friendly and professional service, and unique beverage offerings such as signature sodas and tea service.
Exciting edition of Things to Do in April with events and happenings, many free, for foodies, fashionistas, art and culture lovers and garden buffs. Enjoy!
