Nifty Sunday jazz and dinner event in Overtown, Veuve Clicquot champagne happy hour ($5) in the Brickell area, a great new entry for the Dadeland area, Le Jardinier colab with Paradise Farms , and more foodie news all in Eating News in April – Part 1.

No wonder One K in the Brickell area is packed at Happy Hour every Monday through Friday. We’re talking a glass of Veuve Cliquot for $5 , crowd pleasing light bites for $6.50 to $10, friendly service and a casual and appealing terrace. Called “Veuve on the Clock”, this new sparkling happy hour happens from 4-7 p.m. The concept is this, the earlier you come, the cheaper the champagne. Come 4-5 it’s $5; 5-6 it’s $10 and 6-7 it’s $15. Prefer another drink? Get 50% off the entire bar – cocktails, wine, and beer. Then there’s 50% off the appetizer menu which includes items like a 1K smash burger, oysters, beef tacos, tuna tar-tacos, tuna crispy rice and more. We enjoyed the tuna tar-tacos and beef tacos, our favorite was the fried chicken bao buns (2 to an order), They are breaded chicken tenders, pink peppercorn ranch, buffalo aioli and celery. Want something more substantial? There’s a selection of bowls and pasta for $17.50. Besides the outdoor terrace there’s indoor seating.

The Red Rooster has introduced Sunday Evenings in Historic Overtown from 5-9 pm, a weekly celebration of Overtown’s legendary jazz scene paired with a vibrant culinary experience. This event invites guests to immerse themselves in the soulful sounds and rich history of the neighborhood. We went and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at the Grand Buffet, sitting at an outdoor terrace but there’s also a choice of dining room and bar seating.

Service was friendly and attentive. There’s a very wide selection, both from a cold buffet and hot. Guests can explore a variety of stations featuring Fruit & Pastries, Salad, Mezze, a Raw Bar, Traditional Dishes, Hot Meats, grill-fired specialties, and an array of decadent Desserts. Our favorite dishes were the Mac & Cheese, Chicken Kusiyaki, grill fried ribs, andouille sausage, okra stew and amazing corn bread with butter honey and blackberry jam.

Each Sunday features a new musical act, continuing Red Rooster Overtown’s commitment to reviving and honoring the legacy of this iconic jazz hub. Guests can also enjoy drinks and bites at the bar, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations can be made through OpenTable linked HERE. Parking is at an adjacent lot for $15. Dinner is $65 per adult, $32.50 per child (ages 6-13), and free for children 5 and under.

New Openings and Closings:
As reported in the Miami Herald, two restaurants are closing in Bal Harbour Shops. After 10 years, Le Zoo from restaurateur Stephen Starr, known for its French classic dishes, will be closing at the end of April, joining Aba which also bids adieu.
Can’t wait to try Double Luck, the new Chinese restaurant on 79th Street Causeway, reported to be a stylish but comfortable popup from the owners of one of my favorite Asian spots, Tam Tam, and Brian Griffiths, owner of the bar and brunch eatery Over Under . The menu focuses on traditional Sichuan Chinese dishes and some classics with new twists The popup is open through May and then they’ll evaluate what’s next.Double Luck 1085 NE 79th St., Miami. Reservations are available on Resy.

Popular Brazilian steakhouse Fogo de Chao has opened its newest outpost in Dadeland and debuted some decadent new additions to the menu that offer quality and value. It has the same winning formula as its other locations in South Beach and Coral Gables, a similar décor with buzzy bar though with an addition of a private meeting room and outdoor dining area. The night we went they were debuting a live music offering, now Wednesday through Saturday. Find popular features like the all day happy hour, the full churrasco experience with a large variety of tableside carving of premium cuts of beef, chicken, lamb chops and more, along with a market table of salads, cheese and charcuterie, vegetables, and Brazilian sides for $68 per person. What I didn’t know is one can also order “an indulgent cut” of meat to share at the table for four. We tried the Wagyu New York Strip, 20 ounces, that is prepared tableside on a brick of Himalayan salt ($150). Rich and meaty, and perfectly cooked, we’re hooked, now hard pressed to choose between that and the churrasco experience.

What’s new is the “indulgent churrasco” which adds to the full churrasco a choice of butter bathed lobster tail, black truffle butter, all jumbo lump crab cake or roasted bone marrow and a decadent dessert like the tres leches cake. Other new offerings are the shareable luxury sides, the Oscar crab asparagus ($15) and the lobster mashed potatoes ($18). We tried the lobster mashed potatoes, oh so rich, and there were serious chunks of lobster as they used a whole lobster tail.

Continuing with a strong point of Fogo de Chao, are the beverage prices and offerings, There’s a limited list, mostly South American wines, but it’s a good one, and a glass of wine starts at $14 and bottles at $39. Also all bottles of South American wines under $130 are half priced all day. Cocktails are $14-$15.50. For the “mocktail” crowd there are zero proof cocktails and Brazilian Bebidas including a pineapple mint lemonade.

Lunch is also offered daily with one of my favorite features, the Market Table & Feijoada Bar with Brazilian sides that’s low in budget ($18) and calories.

Valet parking is offered for $15 and there’s a garage nearby.

Michelin star Le Jardinier in the Design District is upping the ante with its lunch offerings. It is debuting a monthly Saturday lunch series designed to celebrate and spotlight the beloved farmers and artisans they proudly partner with. Each month, the restaurant will debut a seasonal menu with organic wine pairings that tell the story of a featured local farm.
The inaugural edition highlights Paradise Farms, a five-acre garden in Homestead known for its regenerative practices and vibrant produce. Executive Chef James Friedberg and Chef de Cuisine Zack have curated a $44, 3-course tasting menu centered around the farm’s freshest ingredients, bringing their story directly to the plate.
The Paradise Farms menu will be available every Saturday from now through May 3, from 12:00 PM – 3:30 PM. For my earlier review on Le Jardinier, click here.
