February's Karen's Kudos features a terrific dinner special from leading seafood restaurant La Dorada, an exhibit of shoes as art at the Bass's bassx gallery, Bellissima: Italian Fashion and High Art at the NSU Museum, fave product finds, and a cooking class series on healthy comfort food.
Chef Bee as Chef Piyarat Arreeratn is known has almost a cult following. So when he opened his newest outpost, NaiYaRa, on South Beach at 1854 Bay Road, it was a hit from day one. I never went to his North Miami Beach restaurant, but had heard about it from colleagues who loved his Thai street food fare. Yes, the food is very good and yes, it’s in the “hot” Sunset Harbour neighborhood so it’s also about a party vibe.
Greek tourism leaders told me about a favorite restaurant in South Florida that was to be the setting for a Greek culinary week in March and invited me to check it out. Never did I expect what I found.
This month Karen's Kudos go to the Wok Star and her event for Chinese New Year Miami, a soon to come restaurant featuring British food from a UK Food Network Star Andy Bates, top of the line Nicaraguan coffee made in K-Cups right here in Miami (and sold wholesale) and an event billed as a "Decadent Afternoon" coming up.
Hallandale, Mr. W reminded me, used to be famous as the place gangsters retired (the ones who beat the odds) and a sleepy town. I got a news release about a new restaurant there, Juniper on the Water, that has had very good consumer reviews (always do research in advance), a Turkish chef and waterfront dining. Intriguing. So off I went.

So, thought I, why not write a post about ideas to celebrate for under $100. So here are eight ways to treat yourself (good tips, too, for self pampering for all of us year round -- why not!)
Miami is known for its flashy style, and there is nothing flashier than having dinner in front of a rare Lamborghini or vintage Rolls Royce, with music pumping in from the DJ, housed in a Ford tractor-trailer. If this gets you excited, the launch of Miami Supercar Rooms bar and restaurant , the nation’s first auto art gallery and gourmet dining experience, which opened recently in Wynwood, is for you.
