The makings of a new Argentine steakhouse in Miami caught my attention when I heard they have their own cattle ranches in Argentina and Uruguay, private label wines and olive oil from Spain, and even coffee from their plantations in Colombia. So off I went to El Churrasco Miami in the former spot of Porcao in the Four Ambassadors Building, 801 Brickell Bay Drive (T.786-5588-5511).
How do you maintain your weight being a restaurant reviewer is a question I often get and thought I’d address it in a special blogpost. Coincidentally, an article in New York magazine (“Platt vs.Fat”) by their restaurant reviewer Adam Platt detailed his forays into weight loss strategies ranging from trendy juice cleanses and protein powders to fasting and “slimming prisons". The self described obese, diabetic prone Platt ended up going to a weight loss coach in (where else), New York City. The price tag? Corporate lawyer fees of $15K for ten hours.
After its first year successful inaugural run, Key Biscayne's Taste Paradise is back and now for the full month of October with four new restaurants that have opened in the past year. Special prix fixe menus at 18 restaurants will be offered for breakfast, lunch and dinner in either the casual or fine dining categories from October 1-31, 2016. Plus, other "firsts" include special "canine treats" for our four-legged friends at participating restaurants and what's billed as a "Cuban extravaganza" at Boater's Grill in Bill Baggs Park.
A travel steal, kickoff to Art Basel with their featured exhibit from the Lowe Art Museum, and a first of the new season at Joe’s Stone Crab highlight Karen’s Kudos for September.
Something different for Miami Spice - a New England experience, winning white wine ideal for Miami's weather (awarded world's best), and a Wagyu burger with rare wine special at Capital Grille and a $1 breakfast at the Mondrian star in this month's Eating News.
Next month is National Pizza Month! In celebration, we’ve rounded up our eight picks for the top places for pizza all around town and new openings to watch for.
The promotional email called it a Mediterranean buffet lunch with a price tag of $24. I gave it notice since the buffet was at Marion that always delivers quality in an attractive bistro setting. Then a girlfriend who knows her food invited me to join a lunch with other friends there, saying she had been there 10 times for the buffet lunch. I went, and couldn't believe it. What a deal. A week later I was back, which says a lot, since the nature of being a food blogger requires my being off to the new place or new offering.
Some of our picks for Miami Spice 2016 have changed their menus for September which we highlight below. Enticing new dishes range from cheese souffle and Alaskan king crab lasagna to roasted duck with fennel and peaches to crispy fried leche flan with pomegranate caramel. The prices are the same -- three-course prix-fixe lunches ($23) and dinners ($39). We've also added Le Palme d'Or which we had a chance to experience and give it a big thumbs up. In the meantime in case you missed our original lists with menus that remain the same, Parts 1 and 2, click here and here.). Bon appetit!
The prize for the best tapas in town, for menu selections and presentation, has to go to KLIMA Miami and its contemporary gastronomy from Barcelona. It goes without saying they’re delicious as well.
If you walked in the door of Il Mulino you wouldn’t know it was an Italian restaurant. The kind of warm, friendly atmosphere and greeting could be one of the tipoffs to its Mediterranean origin. But the décor? Looks like a transplant from a fashion designer’s restaurant, with its attractive, cool, white- on- white contemporary interior design punctuated with fashion posters. It works very well in South Beach. With all of the fusion cuisine, molecular gastronomy, and culinary preciousness around, it’s more than welcome to find a restaurant that continues to embrace the classics. And then there's a great deal they frequently offer at lunch -- 3 course fine dining for $25.
