Calling all pizza lovers! Next month is National Pizza Month! We’ve rounded up our nine picks for the top places for pizza in Miami. Here’s all the more reason to go out and grab a slice.
Mister-01 (formerly known as Visa 01)
1680 Michigan Ave #101, Miami Beach, FL 33139
Tucked away in an office building, Mister-01 is described as “that famous hidden place in Miami Beach.” It’s best known for its incredibly thin and crispy pizza crust topped with only the freshest ingredients. Their most popular pie is the Star Luca, which features a star-shaped crust filled with ricotta cheese, spicy salami, mozzarella and San Marzano sauce. For dessert, there’s also a delicious Nutella pizza. It also opened new outposts in the Mary Brickell Village area (be prepared for a wait) and Wynwood. Pizza prices start at $9.90 and range up to $16.90. For more info, see Karen’s earlier review.
Stanzione 87
87 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33133, (786) 360-1852
Stanzione 87 is an authentic Neapolitan pizzeria housed in the heart of Brickell. Founded on a love for simplicity and tradition, the restaurant does everything possible to obtain the highest quality materials to showcase their craft – from making mozzarella in-house daily to importing their wood-fire oven from Naples, Italy. Their menu is simple, and includes choices for white pizza with no sauce, red pizza with San Marzano tomato sauce, and specialty pizza – such as a pancetta pizza with pancetta cream, fresh mozzarella, potatoes, rosemary, parmigiana and olive oil. Pizza prices average around $15.
Harry’s Pizzeria
Miami Design District Location: 3918 N Miami Ave, Miami, FL 33127, (786) 275-4963
Coconut Grove Location: 2996 McFarlane Rd, Miami, FL 33133, (786) 655-0121
Harry’s Pizzeria is a casual neighborhood spot with locations in the Miami Design District and Coconut Grove. Led by James Beard award-winning chef Michael Schwartz, Harry’s offers high-quality, wood-fired, thin crust pizzas as well as fresh salads, snacks, daily entrees, dessert and craft beer. Stand-out pizza options include their short rib pizza topped with gruyere, caramelized onion and arugula, and rock shrimp pizza topped with roasted lemon, manchego, scallion and cilantro. The restaurant is opening a third location in Downtown Dadeland in spring 2017. Pizza prices start at $13. All pizzas are available with gluten-free crust for an additional $2.
Crust
668 NW 5th St, Miami, FL 33128, (305) 371-7065
One-year-old Crust is located near the Miami River, and offers a large variety of pizzas. Their signature namesake pizza, which we highly recommended, is topped with figs, prosciutto and blue cheese. It’s sweet and savory with a unique taste sensation. If you really love pizza, you can have the dough in their garlic rolls and then for dessert in their fried dough drizzled with Nutella. There’s also a build-your-own custom pizza with a selection of meat, seafood, cheese, fruit and vegetable toppings. Pizzas come in 10-inch (perfect for two to three people), 14-inch and 16-inch. Prices start at $11.95. If you want to be good and eat your greens, the side of sautéed spinach with garlic ($5.95) is delicious, and feeds two.
Lucali
1930 Bay Rd, Miami Beach, FL 33139, (305) 695-4441
This Miami Beach outpost of the famed Brooklyn-based pizzeria has been a hit since the day it opened its doors. The hotspot serves up mouthwatering brick-oven pizzas and calzones, made with handmade dough. The pizza price may seem high — a plain pie costs $24 and toppings cost $3 each — but there are plenty of people who say it’s worth every penny. In addition to the pizza (which you can sprinkle with free fresh basil), other notable menu items include the kale Caesar salad and Nutella dessert pie.
Numero 28 Pizzeria
432 Española Way, Miami Beach, FL 33139, (786) 359-4323
Located in the heart of South Beach, Numero 28 Pizzeria is the restaurant’s eighth location, the first in Florida, owned and operated by the New York-based Biamonte family. Numero 28 specializes in authentic Neapolitan pizza, boasting a wood-fired pizza oven and the finest Italian ingredients – from the traditional Margherita pizza with tomato, mozzarella and basil to the Numero 28 with buffalo mozzarella, speck, truffle cream and mushrooms. The menu also offers a selection of appetizers, salads, primi plates, secondi entrees, and desserts, along with a mozzarella bar. Pizzas are reasonably priced and come in three sizes: 14-inch, 18-inch and 29-inch.
La Fontana Ristorante Italiano
10702 NW 74th St, Doral, FL 33178, (305) 470-9614
La Fontana is a family restaurant delivering fresh food, made from scratch with a consistent service to make you feel like you’re in an Italian home. What’s not made from scratch is imported directly from Italy, like the flour for the dough. The menu is extensive with traditional favorites like lasagna, burrata pasta, salmon carpaccio, filet mignon and more. The pizzas are a meal in one, including options such as the Macina pizza topped with Pomodoro sauce, mozzarella cheese, eggplant, roasted peppers and garlic, and Ciao pizza topped with Pomodoro sauce, mozzarella and gorgonzola cheese, Italian sausage and caramelized onions. Pizza prices average around $15.
Proof Pizza and Pasta
3328 North Miami Avenue (T.786-536-9562)
This pizza and pasta place does some mean pizzas, especially the four cheeses and oxtail, their specialty. And you must combine it with the shaved brussel sprout salad with apple cider, pecans, gorgonzola, and dried cranberries. For dessert, don’t miss the almond macaron ice cream sandwich.Prices at lunch at this very casual eatery range from $12 to $17 for appetizers, pizzas and pastas.
