This year is the 10th anniversary of MiamiCurated. Over the past decade I’m often asked questions from readers like “how do you stay thin”? “How often do you eat out”? Do you get invited by the restaurants you cover? So I thought in honor of the anniversary, I’d answer those questions as I’m sure a lot of you probably wonder about that as well. At the same time, it’s a good time to talk about what I see happening in the restaurant business in Miami – trends good and not so good. Here goes.
If you're planning on going to Palm Beach for the Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera show at the Norton Museum (until Feb.6) or just for a welcome change, here's my list of the best restaurants in Palm Beach with new additions from last time. Different price points as well. Note that in winter season restaurants can book up very early, so best to reserve two weeks in advance or think about going for lunch at the most coveted spots. Here, too, is an updated list of new things to do and links to my posts on where to stay.
Foodie events, new restaurant openings in Miami , a pick for a happy hour that's seven days a week in South Beach, cool gift idea for foodies (Valentine's Day perhaps?), the best lettuce ever with quite a story, and more in Eating News for January.
Joia Beach Restaurant & Beach Club is unlike any other restaurant in Miami. Its tables are literally on the beach, and you can take a dip in Biscayne Bay, enjoy a full restaurant menu, entertainment, and instagrammable views of the Venetian islands and the Miami skyline.
I’ve been to Doya no fewer than five times in two months. That says it all. The food at this modern Aegean Meze Bar, inspired by the food and flavors of Greece and Turkey with other Med influences, is delicious. The atmosphere is like a Greek taverna or Turkish Meyhane, casual and warm, the service friendly, and prices fair.
Being the dessert lover as you know, this is a post I always especially enjoy writing. This year brought dessert favorites ranging from cakes and pies to sundaes and fondue, so you're bound to find something for you! I have put an asterisk at the restaurants I have reviewed.
New Year's Eve Dinners in Miami 2021, our picks from dining and dancing, to shows, a "family experience" and "the works". Just want to go out for the celebratory ambiance, drinks and music or the party? Some options on that front too, from $50 to $100 per person with open bar.
Wondering where to go for a special meal for the holidays? Here are my best dishes of 2021. They also happen to be from many of my favorite restaurants, so you’ll find other really delicious dishes in store if you make a visit. There's a link at each dish with my review if you want to read more. And look for my upcoming post on best desserts of 2021 (you expected that, didn’t you!).
Where to go for lunch or a light bite near the Art Basel Miami fairs ? The challenge at Art Basel week is to find a place that’s not too crowded, so there's not a long wait. That means lesser known restaurants and eateries with a few exceptions. I didn’t write about high end restaurants, since those choices tend to be for dinner, and often get booked in advance. If you have any specific restaurant questions, go to the top bar of the blog that’s in turquoise, and click on Ask Karen. Here’s the list of my “go to” places. I've been to all of them except where indicated.
Reviews of new neighborhood restaurant gems Descorche Miami and Mimi's, produce delivery, flaming Peking duck, another outpost for B Bistro + Bakery, gin making classes, and news at COTE, and more exciting foodie news in Eating News in November.
