Lots of May events Miami , from free music performances and chef-led cooking classes, to historic film presentations, Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and various art events. Looking for something new to do in the Magic City? Try one of these events, listed below. We love them—and we think you will, too!
We’ve passed by La Moderna Italian Restaurant & Cocktail Bar in Sunset Harbour numerous times. There’s always a good sized crowd, especially at the bar, so we decided to see what the appeal was and booked dinner. It’s a neighborhood favorite- -- plus it gets its share of Italians, always a good sign.
A Kentucky Derby party, Brickell pick for Peruvian and Nikkei cuisine, terrific lunch deal at La Centrale, restaurant closings and openings including the new St.Roch Market in Eating News for April.
Yesterday you read about Valentina Cucina Italiana . Here's the twin sister I mentioned, One Door East, featuring Asian fusion cuisine. Both are my new "go to" spots in Fort Lauderdale. The chef of One Door East is Oliver Lustaro, formerly of Zuma in London, Istanbul and New York.
With friends and readers in Fort Lauderdale, and the fact that I often go to the NSU Museum (the Frank Stella show is well worth a visit) and sometimes to the Broward Performing Arts Center, I’m always on the lookout for really good restaurants. When told about two restaurants in one, my interest was piqued, especially since one is Italian and the other Asian fusion. Walk in the front door to the hostess stand and to the right, find Valentino, and to the left, One Door East. These are places I'll return many times. Since you have to see the dishes in their glory, I've made this into a two part series. Day one is Valentino.
As they say, the beat goes on in Miami this month, from spring garden festivals and cultural events (including one with Yo Yo Ma), to a family evening under the stars, fitness happening, unique dinners and more. Looking for April events Miami? Check out our list below. We love them—and we think you will, too!
Give me just out of the fryer churros, a Viennese sacher torte mit schlag (whipped cream), pistachio gelato, and lemon tarte tatin anytime. But it’s American desserts I crave the most. We’re talking donuts, cupcakes, traditional layer cakes, ice cream sundaes and more which you’ve read about here. So was I ever happy to learn about two artisanal Miami bakers who specialize in delectable, decadent, devastating (because you want more than one) all American baked goods.
The newest entry into the scene of Greek restaurants Miami, and a welcome one at that, is Skorpios, named after the private island owned by the late Greek shipping billionaire Aristotle Onassis. Skorpios is like a Greek taverna – casual, friendly, made for socializing and sharing dishes. The floors and walls are decorated with terracotta and mosaic tiles, and the tables are rough hewn wood. Centerpiece of the décor is a dramatic 13 foot Hammerhead shark mounted on the wall. There’s outdoor seating as well.
More events not to miss this weekend, a top of the line knife sharpening service, free art tour, update on shops at Dadeland including a leading Italian lingerie brand, and more in Karen's Kudos for March.
Surprisingly, Miami doesn’t have many restaurants that are casual and chic with a European sensibility--- and with outdoor dining. Think the French or Italian Riviera. And, even better, one where the noise level is moderate, so one can carry on a real conversation. To the rescue, stylish French couple Anthony and Kathy who opened their trophy restaurant, Call Me Gaby at 22 Washington Avenue (opposite Joe’s Stone Crab)T.305-531-4800.
