Where to have lunch during Art Basel Miami when you’re doing art show and gallery hopping? And even if you aren’t hungry, you may need to sit down and relax. Here are some select choices in Midtown, The Design District and Wynwood (including a new Laduree tea salon) with reliably good food and shouldn’t be a crowded scene because either they’re new or lesser known. This is Part II of the series, the first part was on eateries near the main event in the Convention Center.
Art Basel Miami is my favorite week of the year though it can be overwhelming. Here are some miscellaneous tips I thought would be helpful based on my experiences this year as well as art works that caught my attention. Hope this helps in your navigating the next few days.
After a few hours at Art Basel if you're like me you're desperate to sit down, relax and have a good lunch (especially if you can't walk home for lunch). We've picked a selection of eateries for Art Basel Miami 2015 at different price points ranging from an espresso bar to get a tasty sandwich, a luncheon spot by Stephen Starr and an Israeli import for tasty Med dishes enjoyed inside or out, to a market by Jean Georges Vongerichten , serious people watching spots and even Indonesian rijstaffel. Plus, a soft serve popup from the creator of the Cronut. In this, Part I we focused on places near the Convention Center and satellite fairs. Tomorrow we'll look at Midtown, the Design District and Wynwood. Bon appetit!
You may have heard about the sale of the highest priced condo to date in Miami -- $60K-- at the new Faena House. A real estate broker friend said the building will be like a private club for the serious money, think top execs at JP Morgan Chase and Goldman Sachs. The Argentine real estate developer, visionary and art collector Alan Faena believes culture and real estate go hand in hand, so not surprising he went all out for Art Basel, making his condo, hotel, and beach – an area he calls Faena District -- a focal point this year. It’s right up there on my “go to” list for this week from today through December 6.
