Miami is coming into its own in having fine chocolatiers. The newest, in South Miami, is the first retail operation for Garcia Nevett. It’s named for two Venezuelan sisters who bring with them an impressive set of International awards. And then there’s a workshop where you can observe not only chocolate making, but also, one of the sisters hand painting chocolate Christmas ornaments. Find all kinds of temptations for chocoholics, from bombons and decadent cakes to ice cream toppings and even an XL chocolate chip cookie. And you can have a coffee or hot chocolate while you’re there.
They use exclusively Venezuelan chocolate which is considered one of the finest, with percentages of cacao ranging from 61 to 73%. Milk chocolate lovers never fear, there are selections for you as well.
A wide choice of flavors of bombons is offered at any time, alternating from a selection of 24 along with seasonal varieties like ponche de crema with rum and nutmeg or gingerbread. What you’ll always find besides the traditional favorites are popular Venezuelan selections including anis y papelon made with sweet anis and raw cane sugar and the fleur de sel with its Florida harvested salt.
Chocolate lovers will find their prized sweet in everything from cakes ($35) and spoons to smore cookies, and an XL chocolate chip cookie ($25). There are also jars of chocolate syrup and fleur de sel caramel syrup, the latter a total standout.
And for those who like their chocolate with rich, dark roast coffee, they feature Perla that is locally roasted. Can’t wait to get home to have your fix? There’s hot chocolate and poured over coffee, a perfect accompaniment to a bombon.
For the holidays find a whole range of gift options, from a petite box with 9 pieces for $18 to an Experience box for $120. Boxes can be customized with your logo, name or monogram. Individual chocolates can also be customized.
