best pizza in miami miami beach, miamicurated

I’m a fan of pizza, but it hasn’t been one of my favorite foods until now, thanks to a recent find, courtesy of Dave Portnoy’s One Bite Pizza review channel. I’ve discovered easily the best pizza in Miami Beach and arguably in Miami.

If you aren’t familiar with it, One Bite Pizza Review Channel on You Tube is a popular video series where Barstool Sports Founder, Dave Portnoy otherwise known as El Pres travels across the country doing near daily reviews of different pizzerias. A frequent visitor to South Florida, Portnoy has done reviews at nearly all the Miami pizza hot spots.
Much like Portnoy, my quest for the best pizza in town has taken me all across Miami. From Lucali and Mister 01 to O Munaciello, Crust and Harry’s among many others.
Special yeast is part of the secret
One video of El Pres’ caught my attention as the pizza king gave Block’s Pizza Deli in South Beach one of his top ratings in Miami. After seeing him give it a high score, I had to check it out, so off Mr. W, a serious pizza lover, and I went.

First, it’s Roman style pizza. This means square and crispy, non floppy crust. One key point of difference is its crust, what they call Mother Dough. The whole process takes over 3 days of slow fermentation and natural proofing with just a handful of  ingredients — unbleached and unbromated flour, extra virgin olive oil, salt and water. The long and slow leavening process makes the crust an airy and light structure . They say it also makes the pizza rich in nutrients and incredibly easy to digest.

A second big factor is slices are baked to order, not reheated, so they taste very fresh. Ingredients are also prepped daily and are fresh, no freezer. A bite confirms the freshness of the cheeses and pepperoni. We had the 100 Pepperoni which, besides the usual, included provolone.  Mr. W had the Olympian with tomato sauce, mozzarella, fresh tomatoes. And, after baking they add arugula, feta, shaved parmesan and olive oil.

You can order pizza by the slice, half or whole pizza. There’s also “pizza my way” which you can customize (even one slice) with a choice of  over two dozen ingredients, from vegetables, condiments, and different cheese, to meats, vegan mozzarella and Fiordelatte mozzarella.  A selection of salads, sides including meatballs and baked mozzarella, and dessert pockets – Nutella alone or with fruit complete the offerings.
