When I go to Palm Beach it’s as if I hit my “shop button” and off I go. Part of the reason is that “the island” is tranquil, gentle in a way (no crazy drivers), picture perfect and everything is so easy. Any anxiety I have just seems to fade away. And then, one can find wonderful independently owned fashion and accessory boutiques with high quality and, though not inexpensive, much less than the international luxury brands and other local high end boutiques. In fact, my favorite new PB story: Mr W was admiring a blue linen blazer. We went in the store and asked the price. The salesman said 75 or 95. That meant $7500 or $9500!  So what are my favorite palm beach shops? Here’s a guide to my “go to” list of the best Palm Beach shops including a hot off the press addition. And at the end look for a link to my updated list of the best Palm Beach restaurants.

Royal Poinciana Plaza

But first, there are a lot of great shopping areas, whether you want retail or consignment shops. On The Island, the best are in the Worth Avenue area, the main streets and the Vias;  and Royal Poinciana Plaza and Royal Poinciana Way. In West Palm Beach on Dixie Highway, find most of the consignment shops. For gift items the Norton Museum shop has a top selection.

My new Palm Beach pants from Pomponner

One of my newer discoveries that’s a fave (just bought two pair of slacks and a blouse there) is Pomponner on the Viz Mizner,a small shop almost hidden in the corner. The stars are the lovely 50’s style shirtwaist cotton dresses in colorful prints of all kinds (a few hundred dollars). Think “Mad Men”. Then there are the Gretchen Scott stretch pants that fit like a dream, and come in unique designs ($160). While you’re there check out the fun earrings, handbags and bracelets, to make a whole look.

Another new find is Island Cashmere. They sell the French Sole brand of ballet flats in the most luscious colors, in classic styles Chanel and Prada type, but also, statement styles with patterns that pop ($215-$245). As its name suggests, they also sell cashmere tops and other clothing, though the shoes are the main event in my book.

Everything at Frances Valentine is a touch retro .Back in 2016, co-founders (and best friends) Elyce Arons and Kate Spade launched Frances Valentine, following their wildly successful foray into fashion with  Kate Spade. Faves are the wrap dresses, “vintage inspired” handbags and flared satin skirts that I find feminine and flattering. I like the body hugging sweaters, statement jewelry, and especially the flats and low heeled shoes that are comfortable and very stylish, with a rhinestone buckle here, a bow there.

Turkish designer and fashion stylist  Ceyda Avunduk brings it all together in her wonderful  J’Da . Sad to say she closed her Worth Avenue boutique this month (June, 2025) but never fear, she is selling online.. And one of the best features, her fashions and accessories go from day to night, so they’re ideal for travel. Cotton day dresses in unusual, colorful prints , and two tone belted one size fits all shirtwaists in five colors  are perfect for city dressing.

Earrings, rings and bracelets, 24 karat gold micron  plated, with many designs inspired by nature  are from her own atelier in Istanbul.  Though fashion (formerly called costume) jewelry, they look expensive (my favorite moniker) — oh so elegant, feminine and lovely.

The top travel accessory in my book is the five in one leather hand bag in eight appealing colors. You can use it as a clutch, a cross body bag, shoulder bag, waist bag or wrist bag. Jazz it up with a scarf tied around the  handle. For my review, click here.

Coastal Girls

Another new favorite is the aptly named Coastal Girls.  It’s where I found a gorgeous organza bolero top with handmade appliques from a Turkish designer and consistently find items I like. The clothing is coastal chic featuring fashion lines and accessories that the owner Dee finds traveling the world. “Being in Via Bice, steps away from Worth Avenue,  makes it imperative to have unique brands that no one else has on the island, ” she explained.  They have great resort lines from France, Italy and most recently Greece including Kasia & Nema lines,  up and comers. They also have our own line as well that reflects the true Palm Beach lifestyle….classy, carefree and chic. Besides the great clothes, being philanthropic is an everyday event at Coastal Girls.  They partner with charities on the local and national level to give back to those in need.

Ala van Auersperg is about casual elegance from this artist and designer who does it so well, with her tropical inspired fashions whose prints originate from her one of a kind paintings and drawings. They attract a serious following, and I can certainly see why. Her designs are joyful, feel good, and even a little flirtatious.

Each print is unique, inspired by her tropical surroundings in Antigua, with themes like florals, nuptial, foliage, plumage and exotics. Fabrics are ideal for the tropics, in linen, silk, cotton, mesh and stretch knits, and are designed to work for vacation, dinner at home or a night out. She also has plus sizes which she calls “extended sizes”. For my review, click here.

55 Croisette with outposts in Paris and Cannes has serious designers like Balmain, Scervino, Alaia. The inventory isn’t large but everything is very well curated by the French owner. Besides shirtwaist dresses, find classic wear with everything basic blouses of the finest quality.

Royal Poinciana Way:

Main Street, owned by The Breakers, is the place for stylish gift items at all price points, fancy picture frames for a boudoir, table décor, and  kitchen items. It also includes a coffee shop with tempting baked goods.

New additions I plan to check out are La Double J from Milan and the Marissa Collections.

South Dixie Highway/West Palm Beach Shopsmad

My newest find  has one of the largest collections of designer vintage costume jewelry in the country. D Brett Benson Inc Vintage Jewelry in West Palm Beach has the biggest names from the turn of the century to the mid to late 1980’s. We’re talking thousands of pieces from the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel, Kenneth J Lane, YSL, Robert Lee Morris, Trifari and more. Also notable are their lucite handbags from the 50’s, not just in the usual transparent models, but also, mother of pearl, black and light blue. Jewelry prices range from $395 to $9500. Neaby is antiques row with plenty to shops for the home.

Want to go to Palm Beach and stay the night or two? In case you missed it, here’s my review of The Colony Hotel, a fave.
