1 Hotel & Homes South Beach is becoming one of the hot spots in town, almost always “buzzy”. They keep upping the ante, first snagging Tom Colicchio to oversee their restaurant, then getting a top New York boutique to move in, going after the cool crowd with the rooftop pool and restaurant Watr (see my writeup on Sunday Funday), and most recently, opening the first US outpost of luxe UK Bamford Haybarn Spa, a welcome addition to spas Miami.
The holistic spa’s design and philosophy echoes that of the hotel design and décor, emphasizing natural, organic elements in its design and décor as well as its products. So find design touches of log walls from reclaimed ash trees, hickory floors from recycled timbers and willow bundles from salvaged trees, all this with a signature scent of candied orange. It’s all very serene and relaxing.
Treatments use their own chemical free products like fruit enzymes, natural oils and creams, and shea butter. Their signature treatments include the Bamford Signature Treatment (50 or 80 minutes) with a cleansing footbath followed by a combo of shiatsu, meridian and Swedish massage (from $245); and the Jade Hot and Cold Treatment, an 80 minute massage with organic oils and warm and cold stones( $235). Another, the Bamford Bespoke 50 minute facial, I tried $160) . A gratuity of 20% is automatically added to the prices. It’s in five steps beginning with a signature jade stone ritual to relax, followed by a cleansing and exfoliation using lemon, apple and red grape enzymes.
Next up was a face massage with evening primrose and strawberry seed oils. A welcome touch was the inclusion of a scalp and shoulder massage which those of us who are at the computer all day happily welcome. Hot and cold stones help lymphatic drainage, ending with moisturizing cream. My skin looked glowing, oh that it looked like that everyday!
Part of the 4500 square foot space is a couples suite and also a retail store that sells ready to wear loungey type clothes and accessories made with natural fibers said to be from artisans from around the world. Parking is free with validation. Next up for Bamford is a second spa at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge later this year. Bamford Haybarn Spa, 102 24th Street, South Beach.
