It may sound strange but I “unwrapped” my Valentine’s Day gift today about a month late. My husband always has impeccable taste and this year he picked a real winner – a day at Remede Spa at the St. Regis Bal Harbour, 9703 Collins Avenue  (tel.305993-3300). I just happened to select a Monday because it worked with my schedule. That turned out to be an excellent choice. When I arrived at 9:15 to use the sauna, steam room, and Jacuzzi, the place was deserted and I had the luxurious spa all to myself. Next, came a pit stop in the Relaxation Room where they offered succulent strawberries, blanched almonds, and the best blackberries I’ve ever tasted. At 10:00, it was time for my first treatment, a one- hour deep tissue massage on a heated table. When it was over, I knew my body was still there but it felt light and airy like the holograms in “Star Wars”. As I floated down the hall, the masseuse guided me to another smart but simply appointed room for a full body scrub using sugar, oils, and a hint of citrus.

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, she ushered me to a private terrace that was balmy and shaded. After a complimentary glass of champagne and hazelnut truffle, I ordered lunch.  At this point I was thinking I don’t know if there IS a heaven or what it’s like, but this is a perfect blueprint!  An hour later, it was time for more pampering – a customized facial complete with microdermabrasion and paraffin wraps for my hands and feet. My face was as glowing as my freshly oiled body. Rounding out the day, a manicure and pedicure, both first rate. When my day of beauty was finally  over at 4:30, I hated to leave but drifted out the door with a pampered body and a mind free of that chronic “to do” list we all carry with us. Well, there was ONE item on the list. Rush home and thank my husband for another day in Paradise!
