Key Takeaways on Healthy Living & A Look at David Beckham’s IM8

David Beckham with IM8

What’s the cutting edge thinking about healthy living as well as longevity? Any practical tips on what we can do? I was invited to a presentation by the team behind IM8 the new uber vitamin supplement from former soccer great David Beckham who, heaven knows, can afford to hire the best minds to develop a product. Off I went to the Faena Hotel and a press briefing, and came away with serious things to think about, especially since I had decided that after many years of using supplements prescribed by an immunologist in New York, it was time to relook them with something that is “state of the science”. Here’s what I discovered, some key details about the supplement and valuable tips for our health.

Important Note:

I wanted to share this story with you because I found it interesting and relevant. It’s important to note that this post is based on my own initiative and, as with all my posts,  I haven’t received any financial compensation for it. On a personal note , I started using IM8 about two weeks ago and have already felt a noticeable boost in my energy levels and a greater sense of well-being.

First, something about IM8. The team behind the product includes gut health, cardiovascular specialists and Dr. Jim Green former Chief Scientist at NASA and IM8 Scientific Advisory Board member who specifically works on studying cells in outer space where they age more rapidly than on earth which has implications on reversing osteoarthritis. IM8 is premium core nutrition, born from a collaboration between David Beckham as a co-founding partner, and an elite team of scientists spanning medical professionals (Mayo Clinic among others), academia and space science.

(l to rl) Dr. James DiNicolantonio, Cardiovascular Research Scientist, Doctor of Pharmacy, and IM8’s Chief Nutrition Officer; Dr. Amy Shah, Double-Board Certified Physician, Internal Medicine and Nutritionist, and IM8 Scientific Advisory Board member; Dr Jeremy London, Board Certified Cardiovascular Surgeon and IM8 Scientific Advisory Board member; Asmae Fahmy, Science and Health Journalist, IM8 Scientific Advisory Board Panel Moderator

Question: If I just had a thorough blood test from an annual exam that showed no deficiencies why should I consider changing supplements I’m taking?

Answer: The standard blood test gives a birdseye view of the body but cannot look closer into cells and cellular health or gut health which is “like soil with plants”, nourishing the entire body.

Question: What’s one of the best ways to improve gut health?

Answer: Eat a lot of fiber and take polyphenols, pro and postbiotics.

Question: Can you take too much of a vitamin or mineral?

Answer; Usually not, except in the case of vitamins A,D,E and K.

Question: If I’m looking for a medical professional to look at all my medications as well as supplements to ensure I have my bases covered and aren’t taking something that is prejudicial to a medication, whom should I go to?

Answer: It’s a tough call. The medical profession hasn’t really caught up with this so it’s not easy. You might turn to a concierge doctor or ask your GP.

Other takeaways;

  • The best things to do in starting your day to promote longevity are 1/take a walk to get morning sunlight 2/hydrate well with electrolytes and 3/have at least 25 grams of protein for breakfast.(note from Karen, just found that Chobani and Oikos Greek yogurts have high protein yogurt with 20 grams in about a cup)
  • Light at night, even a nightlight,  interferes with sleep as it interferes with melatonin release
  • One of the worst things for your health is a lot of fat around your belly as it is related to inflammation, heart disease and dementia
  • Heart disease is the #1 killer worldwide so heart health should take priority
  • C0Q10 improves absorption of vitamins and minerals and also cleans up damaged cells
