Hands down some of the best gift items around can be found at museum shops worldwide. That has been the case for awhile but, with the dire need for funds with so many museums closed, they have stepped up their game in their shops, an important source of revenue. How about doing your holiday gift shopping or just pamper yourself and help museums. The perfect time, too, is this Sunday, November 29, more than 1,400 museum stores representing all 50 states and the District of Columbia, 23 countries, and five continents will offer inspired shopping at museums and cultural institutions during the fourth annual Museum Store Sunday. In South Florida I have some museum shop favorites and also, here’s a list by the Huff Post of the top ten for online shopping in the USA.
In Miami my favorite is the Perez Art Museum of Miami store. I went there recently with four friends and yours truly and two others each bought something right away and put other items on their holiday wish list. Find everything from items for home decor and jewelry to kids toys, apparel, office, books, quirky things for the person who has everything, and more.
Another favorite that’s little known and selling online now is the Official Art Deco Gift Shop of the Miami Design Preservation League. Here you can find sunglasses, art deco jewelry and my favorite, pop up art cards such as Celia Cruz Azucar, Frida Kahlo and an alligator and a palm tree. In Fort Lauderdale, the the NSU Art Museum has a well curated shop with a varied selection of gift items (no online shop yet).
Well worth a visit is The Boca Raton Museum of Art’s Museum Store with an online Holiday Gift Guide with contemporary design for the home,art-inspired toys and educational gifts for kids and parents, handcrafted art creations, and art-to- wear jewelry for him and her. Hats off to their initiative to feature more than 20 local artist items so that every purchase also supports artists in our community” said Aylin Tito, Director of Marketing and Visitor Engagement. Also, as a specical offer on November 29 they’re offering every shopper the chance to be a member for the day with free museum admission, 20% off the entire purchase, free museum store mask with $50+ or more purchase and curbside pickup.
After looking at their online store and drooling, I’ve definitely made plans to go to the Morikami Museum shop in Delray Beach on the 29th. What caught my eye were the bonsai and herb seed kits, sushi and sake sets, handsome blue and white ceramics, apparel, floral soaps, teas and much more. The museum and store are open.

You should also check out the list of the best museum online stores in the USA from the Huff Post (the PAMM shop is included, go PAMM!). Here are a few of the many items I particularly liked (note, links to all of the museums are in the list):
Contemporary vase from the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago
Space craft kit from the Smithsonian
Cashmere stole from the Art Institute of Chicago
And get this, a baby gift from the Autry Store of the American West, a cowboy bib with a pacifier clip (for you nostalgia buffs, they have Gene Autry movies on DVDs)
Quirky Christmas tree ornaments like these paintbrushes from The Getty Museum
Contemporary menorah from the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) Design Store
Glass and espresso cups for hot and cold beverages from MoMa Design Store (the most extensive selection of items in all categories)
