Mushroom risotto at El Tucan

Over 250 restaurants are participating in Miami Spice 2019 with offerings for a three course brunch and lunch ($23) and dinner ($39). Besides choosing my picks based on the quality of the kitchen, I thought I’d bring in other criteria, especially for dinner — the plus, along with menus of some of the most popular restaurant choices.

El Tucan

Dinner plus entertainment

How about a DJ, singer, burlesque show and other entertainment that varies nightly?  Think aerialists, singers and dancers. That’s on the menu at El Tucan.  The choice menu picks of a friend and I were the avocado salad and Wagyu beef dumpling for appetizers, and the wood grilled filet of branzino with green chili ginger. The standout dish was the risotto hot pot with five different kinds of mushrooms. For dessert go with the raspberry cheesecake. It’s open for dinner, Wednesday through Saturday from 8 pm. Entertainment starts at 10 p.m.

Miami party spots

A Party vibe with the dinner

Baoli is such a lovely, festive place, it’s a special treat to go there. It has the ambiance, vibe and people watching you’d expect from a restaurant/club whose provenance is Cannes.  Be sure to start with their signature tuna tart – an original riff on tuna sashimi with a crisply tortilla, truffle mayo, red onion and cilantro. Then opt for the mushroom risotto with shitake and enoki mushroom or the wagyu beef with micro salad. End on a high note with the baba au rum – berries salad, raspberry ice cream and berries coulis. And, a nice touch, they throw in an order of edamame with oyster sauce.

Never go wrong with ……

Miami Spice Hakkasan

Always a crowd pleaser, Spice is back for weekend lunch and dinner. For dinner, start with shrimp with orange sauce, followed by steamed snapper with ginger sauce and black sesame cheesecake for dessert. Brunch is especially appealing — and I think the best choice — with a dim sum basket; choice of baked spicy chicken thigh with cumin or sauteed Shanghai pak choi with mushroom or stir fry udon noodles with duck and black pepper; and dessert (minimum two people)
