Ever want to know where Michael’s Genuine, Four Seasons’ Edge , Milos Miami, River Oyster House and some of the other top restaurants get their ultra fresh vegetables? From Michael Borek Farms, Home of Teena’s Pride produce at 20025 SW 270th Street, Homestead Tel. (786)243-1714. One of only four family farms left in Miami-Dade, Teena’s Pride also makes weekly farm to table deliveries in Miami to their subscribers based on small(single), medium(for 2-3) or large share (4-5 people).
You receive one or two items in each of four categories: greens (e.g.kale, Swiss chard, argula); herbs; vegetables; and drinks (herbs and/or leaves to make teas or special ice waters). The service is offered from now through May.
My delivery included salad mixings: radishes, celery like you’ve never had, arugula, carrots and baby lettuces; kale and butternut squash; dill, lemon grass and chocolate mint , everything I could put to good use and couldn’t have been fresher. If you’re a good customer and you want something special grown for you, for example, sugar cane to go with your mint for mojitos, they’ll comply. The pickup is easy: pickup spots run from Homestead to Aventura and many spots in between. For instance you can pick your weekly share at South Beach, Downtown Miami, and North Miami Whole Foods on the delivery date after 3 p.m. at places like Whole Foods and Gardners Market. A small share is $23 a week; half share, $32 and large share, $43. To join, click here.

Once a month Teena’s Pride holds a Farm Fresh Miami day with everything from a chef’s demo and tasting, tomato tasting table (heirlooms like copia, sungold, pineapple and brandywine now in season), olive oil tasting, herb drying demo, to tours of their hydroponic gardens, and a vegetable and plant market. It’s free and great fun, a wonderful outing.
