Alert for holiday gifting!! Once described as the Paris of South America, Buenos Aires was a global fashion capital during the early 20th century. Now after a success with luxury vineyard real estate, fine wines and luxury boutique hotels, the Gaucho Group Holdings team turned to fine leather clothing and accessories for men and women, and items for the home in its brand, Gaucho – Buenos Aires. The brand recently opened a shop in the Miami Design District that’s well worth a visit and has some unique items for holiday gifting.
The main event are the handsome, stylish and quality leather and suede jackets for men and women, along with a select choice of their line of fashion accessories and items for the home. Argentine designers Carmen Vils, Creative Director Lautaro Garcia de la Peña and others work their magic, calling into play the country’s heritage and artisanship of other products as well, such as woven fabrics and precious metal jewelry.
The leather is soft and supple, the jackets lined with silk, and, when it’s a question of bright color, it’s nothing short of rich. The shop displays a selection of all of their items, though a wider selection is available online.
Besides the jackets, find leather tops and shirts, dresses, handsome shoulder bags, totes, backpacks, IPad cases and small leather items. The aesthetic is inspired by the Argentina gaucho – equestrian and country, but also at home in an urban setting.
The gaucho world is most clearly expressed in the felt hats and silk scarves, with images and design elements, and the woven ponchos.
The surprise of my visit was the Gaucho Casa collection. The website doesn’t do the quality justice. Find everything from candle holders and serving pieces to knives and candles.
Favorites were the wine holders in a choice of copper or silver ($95 and $125), artisanal silver knives that are collector items ($195), and the silver ice and champagne buckets ($345 – $445).
To give you an idea of the price points, leather jackets range from $805 to $1295; handbags from $395 to $895.
