Where to go for the best fashion, art and design spotting in the Design District over the next few days? Here are my picks, with a sample of what’s in store if you go there. Some of the choices are my taste, and others I’ve included because they’re noteworthy and/or fun to check out.

Well worth a visit are the revamped Louis Vuitton stores, one for men and another for women. Whether it’s your aesthetic or not, you have to admit they’re a wow. Patricia Urquiola has curated an enveloping exhibition of the universe of Objets Nomades, a journey through the artistic perspectives of all the Objets Nomades design collaborators. The top floor of the Louis Vuitton women’s store is a design gallery with a rotating collection.
One of the pieces I especially liked is a light fixture with “lanterns” wrapped in leather, each one with its own LED light with a dimmer. You can use them individually or in any combo.

Loewe revamped its shop and has a seriously fashion forward collection including these lime green platform booties.

Love Alexander McQueen’s clothes, especially this dress.

Gold oxfords with taps for men? Check them out at Thom Browne.

Dior did its annual new collecton of artsy handbags called Dior Lady Art.

The usually classic Harry Winston went all out with its kaleidoscope collection of watches, necklaces and rings.

And highlighted its candy collecton with a candy cart at the entrance to the store.

Sequins were much in evidence in clothes and rhinestones in shoes. Could it be the trend of a return to the “Roaring 20’s” ? Not Chanel, though. But they’re always fabulous.

Want the same grand sculpture by Jaume Plensa that’s in the Plaza de Colon in Madrid ? Galerie Lelong has it.

A fave South African artist William Kentridge has an exhibit of sculptures, paper works and more at the Goodman Gallery.

Looking for a glam holiday gift that’s around $100? Check out this rhinestone covered lipstick case with lipstick by Bond No.9 NYC.

You can always count on Luminaire to have design objects worth checking out during Art Basel. And again this year, lighting designer Davide Groppi has an intriguing group of creations inspired by famed artists, poets and musicians from John Cage and Rene Magritte to Alexander Calder. They appear as glimmers in an absolute black setting.

Note that many of the stores require masks be worn and entry is limited for social distancing. Finally, Michael’s Genuine is open again and more than double in size. The word had gotten around as it was packed.
Enjoy!
