How’s this for a special gift idea? Personalize a jacket with memories of a relationship, an image of a favorite pet, or even a portrait. Or forget all that, and just get one of the cool jean jackets as art. For men and women, too.

Thomas Kachian and Joe Chirichigno are both graduates of art schools with degrees in fine art and in the case of Joe, graphic design as well. They came upon their new artisanal business venture and now labor of love by chance.Joe painted a jean jacket for his girlfriend with romantic memories of the first few months of their relationship. Then he painted her another jacket with an image of her beloved dog on the back.

Thomas got his introduction to painted clothing in an unusual way too. He had worn artist work pants as he created paintings in his studio, and over time his pants had become covered with layer upon layer of paint. People began to approach him on the street with compliments on his unique painted pants, some even offering to buy the pants he was wearing! These two good friends saw the reactions people had to their painted clothes and realized a great opportunity had presented itself.

That was the springboard of Wynwood Jack. Besides custom painted jackets, there’s a selection of 15 models, each one of a kind. For instance, one writes I Adore Her in white a thousand times, there’s a 1969 themed model, Art Miami Diva, another for an Anglophile, Alice in Wonderland and more.
Jackets range in price from $250 to $600. Custom orders start at $500 and take about two weeks. There’s also a small selection of hand painted pants in very small sizes (samples). The artists work out of a loft like studio in Wynwood, right across from Beaker & Gray.
