Art Basel: New Adventures + “Classic” Fairs

This year I’m taking a new tack on Art Basel Miami 2021, bringing you updates on the now “classic” art fairs and also cool new additions I’m naming new adventures. This includes everything from an NFT art party with music and crypto technology to art meets fashion, painting a Porsche, a whiskey train tour, and more. Seems a lot to take in? Check out the antidote for stress that’s a WALLCAST.  Note that tickets to the art fairs need to be purchased online, and safety protocols are in place in most cases, with masks required and  some requiring proof of full vaccination.

The New Adventures

Here’s a brilliant idea — New World Symphony will be projecting an artwork on its giant WALLCAST to help regain serenity during what is a seriously “go go” time. On view over two evenings, November 30 and December 1, 2021 from 7-11pm the NWS will present Paula Crown’s interactive participant-generated, AI-moderated artwork EMANARE,  with a soundscape developed by the Symphony’s Fellows. EMANARE is FREE and open to the public, encouraging participants to enter a positive affirmation in a ritual inspired by Buddhist prayer wheels. The project aims for worldwide reach, encouraging messages in any and all languages.

You can submit your personal message in person, or from anywhere else in the world. Here’s how: there will be QR codes available at The New World Symphony location to direct participants to the portal for entry and anyone can submit a message through the website: https://www.paulacrownatelier.com/project/emanare-miami-2021/

The first-ever NFT Art Party Exhibition — will present a four-day pop up experience combining music, art, & crypto technology at Wynwood Studios in the heart of Miami’s art district. From Dec. 1st-4th, each night will showcase major musical performances, an NFT Art experience, and exclusive NFT drops, all presented by unique brands aiming to bridge the worlds of music, crypto and art. The events will be powered by FTX — a US-regulated cryptocurrency exchange with a mission to grow the digital currency ecosystem. Each night of Wynwood Studios will feature in-person and online sales of NFTs on FTX’s Marketplace in collaboration with The Art Plug — an art collective and creative agency founded by Marcel Katz with the purpose of making art accessible to the world. Adding to the crypto melting pot, Star Atlas will also partner with the lineup of activities, showcasing installations featuring its next-generation gaming metaverse, emerging from the confluence of state-of-the-art blockchain, real-time graphics, multiplayer video game, and decentralized financial technologies.

The presenting brands at Wynwood Studios will feature some of the hottest headliner names in the art, music, and technology scenes. Kicking off the action, ‘ABRACADABRA’ will feature special performances by  BLOND:ISH and Seth Troxler. Thursday night, presented by ‘WeAreTheFuture,’ will feature iconic performances by Damian Lazarus and Nic Fanciulli. Come Friday, ‘Higher Ground’ will present the highly anticipated set by DJ,Diplo, followed by ‘Hurry Up Slowly’ presenting Guy Gerber and Kaz James on Saturday to wrap up the week. LOUIS VUITTON OBJETS NOMADES COLLECTION –-You can always expect a WOW with Louis Vuitton when they look to combine art and fashion. And so, Louis Vuitton’s Objets Nomades Collection celebrates the Maison’s tradition of craftsmanship and heritage through travel-inspired objects by a diverse group of internationally-renowned designers. This December they’ll  transform their Miami Design District stores into an immersive Objets Nomades installation, highlighting new pieces for 2021, including Merengue and Aguacate by the Campana Brothers, Cosmic Table by Raw Edges and a Petal Chair by Marcel Wanders. The men’s store façade will be based on the Marcel Wanders Studio Objets Nomades Diamond Screen, where Marcel reinterprets Louis Vuitton’s historic Monogram motif and the canework that once adorned LV trunks. The color and sensationalism of the pattern adapted to the new men’s store façade screen pays homage to Miami Modernist architectural style. The Women’s store’s façade will be temporarily wrapped in a jubilant burst of woven colors, patterned after a new Objet Nomade by the Campana Brothers. Inside, Patricia Urquiola has curated an enveloping exhibition of the universe of Objets Nomades, a journey through the  artistic perspectives of all the Objets Nomades collaborators.
