Though I've been to Palm Beach numerous times over the years, somehow this time was my favorite. Part of the reason was surely that I felt like I was getting away, having a travel experience. But it was also because "PB" as I call it was relaxed, with an absence of traffic, and everyone was especially welcoming, happy we were there. Plus, we had such a wonderful hotel stay at the Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa, rated as Florida's top resort for 5 years running in Conde Nast Traveler's Reader's Choice Awards, we extended our visit a night for a 4 day/3 night getaway. It was our first hotel stay since the start of COVID-19, so could experience the safety protocols. Here's my first hand experience:
After  four months pretty much in lockdown, don’t you feel you need to mix it up? I sure do.  So no coincidence all of the posts about scenic drives and walks, daycations and staycations, with more to come. One of the better days we’ve had since March was the daycation with the SLS South Beach day pass last week. It was super fun, easy, we enjoyed very good service, and felt totally refreshed.  Plus, with the safety protocols in place at the resort (social distancing, masks, sanitizers throughout), we felt secure. There are a wide choice of passes depending on the amenities you want and number in your party. Here’s our first person experience and the options.

If you haven't RSVP'd yet for my upcoming 3 in 1 fashion event for men and women on February 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., now's the time to do it before tomorrow's deadline. Plus, you'll be in for another just announced treat! If you have replied, as a reminder the address is 6704 4th Avenue. There's on site free parking. Here are the details in case you missed my earlier post describing the event.
A number of you have expressed interest in going to the warehouse/showroom of Anatomie, the company that makes travel clothes for men and women. So great news! We'll be going there AND have two other curated vendors. Mark your calendar for February 12, 5:30 to 7:30.  My next reader event will be held at their showroom. PLUS, we’’ll be joined by Sonder and Holiday that makes stylish straw market bags that were all the rage in the French Riviera this summer along with custom Panama style hats for men and women and others. And if that wasn’t enough, we’ll have the designers of my much complimented Frida Kahlo earrings and others that happen to be under $60 so you can buy more than one.  Enjoy wine, prosecco and light bites too! Here’s more on the event and images of the products on display. And if you like what you’ve read, I need to have your RSVP by February 7. Feel free to invite a guest but I need to know the name.
Lovers of all things lavender will be in heaven at the exceptional Musee de la Lavande in Luberon, Lavender Museum Coustellet, near Gordes, Provence. It’s the labor of love of  Le Chateau de Bois, which has the largest  growing estate of fine lavender designated PDO (mark of quality, Protected Designation of Origin) in the world. We’re talking everything from a museum with antique copper tills showing the process of extracting the oils from the flowers and a VIP tasting room with all things lavender, to a sensory painting workshop and very large shop. Plus, you can learn about how to ensure you have the real lavender rather than a prolific hybrid called lavandin which is more commonly used.
Those of you who have been reading this blog for awhile know my travel coverage has focused on less well traveled destinations -- Ethiopia, Iran, Crete and others, and surprising discoveries in each. On a recent trip we went to the "new" Provence, or as the Wall Street Journal described, "Not Your Father's Provence". The attractions that have appealed to some of history's greatest painters, from Cezanne to Van Gogh, still shine, but it's becoming a new place thanks to global modern day billionaires in the tradition of the Medicis. Here are images and facts that surprise from visits to Aix-en-Provence, the Luberon and Arles. Enjoy!
Looking for a Florida Staycation? Put Tampa on your list. In Part 1 you'll find out things to do worth the trip and here in Part 2, where to stay and where to eat including a Steak-Cation.
If you haven’t been to Tampa in over a few years, I suggest you put it on your Staycation calendar. It’s a happening place. We’re talking foodie quality eating, craft beers (the craft beer capital of Florida), major performing arts center (the largest one in the Southeast US), visual arts, and unique festivals. That’s in addition to all of the family attractions you’ve probably heard of – from Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and the Florida Aquarium to ZooTampa,  and the New York Yankees training exercises. Plus, prices including hotel rates are a lot less than in Miami, even in peak season. Here are things to do, Part 1. Part 2 will be where to stay and eat.
