Fabulous Friday – “Diamond” Tequila

Now here’s a different show stopping hostess gift for the holidays, or just to self gift, especially if you love Mexican food and drink. Maestro Dobel Diamante Tequila has just come out with wow packaging to house its heavily embossed bottle inspired by 19th century apothecary vessels. The container looks like a drum and in fact, complete with drum sticks and a canvas like top, can be played like one. And then there’s the “liquid gold” inside – ultra premium Dobel “diamante” (diamond) tequila, the first of its kind that’s multi-aged. Here’s the story:

Maestro Dobel is made from 100 percent blue agave that grows in the volcanic lowlands of the Jalisco region near the coast. The agaves used are eight to ten years old, which is when these plants are at their prime. After double distillation and filtration, tequilas of three different ages are hand-blended together: reposado (aged 15 months), anejo (aged 24 months), and extra-anejo (aged 36 months). The result is a tequila that’s made for drinking in shots it’s so good. When made into different cocktails, it also makes for a not-your-usual food and tequila pairing. Best described by Gayot, its taste is a balanced combination of limestone minerality and citrus flavors with a delicate and sweet finish.

Each bottle of the eighty-proof liquor is individually numbered and marked with the name of the ranch from where the agave was harvested. Dobel Tequila is available in leading bars, restaurants and retailers in various sizes. The limited edition drum case with a bottle of Diamante tequila is $49.99.
