Karen’s Kudos October

Brazilian workout clothes Miami
Liquido Brazilian activewear, now in South Florida

From Brazilian activewear and a beauty treatment that’s perfect for that special night out, to a new Miami inn for global nomads, Gin and Jazz in South Beach, and Pulse Miami, a first ever food festival that celebrates you’ll never guess what. It’s all in Karen’s Kudos for October.

The workout gear I get the most compliments on is from Brazil. It’s highly colorful, fun, fits well, and is flattering besides. Prices are comparable to those of leading US brands so don’t think cheap, but the clothes are very durable.  If you haven’t seen Brazilian active wear, make your way to Liquido, the first US outpost of the brand with 85 stores in Brazil. Besides workout clothes and yoga wear, there’s 50+ UVA/UVB protected swimwear collection. The shop is in downtown Hollywood, 1937 Harrison Street (T.754-263-2546).

Want to look your absolute best for a gala, wedding, or special party where you want to wow everyone? You’re having your hair and makeup done, bought a special outfit, what more? How about looking the way you do after a relaxing, stress free vacation? That’s the way my skin looked after a 30 minute treatment at Sesderma, 67 Miracle Mile (T.305-441-1484). I was skeptical when told about the process, but the proof was my skin looked glowing and rosy (and younger) after the one treatment. The one I chose is called the Nanopore 1 stylus developed by Dr. Gabriel Serrano, a dermatologist in Spain, along with a product line that is primarily sold to dermatologists in 35 countries around the world. It is based on microneedling, tiny needles filled with anything from vitamin C and a firming liquid, to antiaging retinal and a serum for removing pigmentation spots. I opted for the separate chemical peel followed by application of the liquid to help remove pigmentation spots and then sealed with retinal. The microneedling didn’t hurt at all. It felt like a loofah gently passing over my skin. The final process was applying a moisturizer and sunblock.  Speaking about the moisturizer, Hidraderm, it’s wonderful — creamy, light, and well absorbed by the skin. I’m a convert (bought the big bottle). The process lasts about 40 minutes if you have a chemical peel first. It’s $200 per treatment or $280 with the seven minute peel. A series of four treatments is $680.  Next month Dr Serrano will be at the store on Miracle Mile.

Futurists say that a growing percentage of us will become global nomads, giving up our home and office bases to constantly travel. Why not? Unless your business entails a lot of face to face meetings, with WIFI and online meetings, you can work anywhere. Companies have already sprung up to meet the need, like ROAM, which just opened its combo co-living and co-working space in Miami. They reinvented the historic River Inn with 38 suites that share a kitchen, pool, laundry facilities and workspace. Miami is its third facility. Bali and Madrid are open and 10 more are on the way. Rates start at $500 a week. River Inn, 18 Southwest South River Drive.

Gin and Jazz traymore
Gin and Jazz night at The Traymore Bar

“Gin & Jazz”, doesn’t it have a nice ring to it? I went to the preview at The Traymore Gin Bar and had a grand time. Billed as an evening soiree, it’s like a party, as guests station themselves at the bar so it lends itself to meeting new people. The Metropolitan Como Miami Beach, 2445 Collins Avenue, stages Its Gin & Jazz the third week of every month at 7:00 p.m.. The cost of entry is just the price of a drink.
Each month a different premium gin brand is featured out of 40 brands in an exclusive gin cocktail menu created by the hotel’s management team and head mixologist, Alexis Sanchez.
To accompany the gin presentation – in true 1930s style – is a special guest appearance by a local artist whose work is chosen to represent among the very best in today’s classic and contemporary jazz. Complimentary passed hors d’oeuvres are featured as an ideal pairing for the evening’s gin cocktail menu.
In addition to the The Traymore Gin Bar’s signature cocktails, such as the “Collins Park” and “Traymore 1939”, the hotel also offers a series of Gin Flights for the true gin aficionado, including the Timeless Gin Flight, Modern Gin Flight and Adventurous Gin Flight. For reservations call 305-695-360 or email dining.met.mia@comohotels.com or via Open Table. Discounted valet parking, www.comohotels.com/metropolitanmiamibeach
