A slew of day spas, grooming and barber shops Miami have opened specifically with men in mind. Looking for somewhere to treat the gentlemen in your life to some A-list pampering? Checkout the first part of a two part series on barber shops Miami —some of them even have treatments for the ladies, too.
Hammer & Nails
Located in The Shops at Midtown Miami, Hammer & Nails is soothing, pampering, and with a male aesthetic in mind — not surprisingly it’s called a “mancave”. There’s a barber section where master barber Carlos Ferdinand, Brand Ambassador for prestige New York Shaving Company presides, giving scalp massage; shaves; maintenance, tune up and line up cuts, even for boys under 12. And then there’s what they call color Camo, touchups for hair and beard to cover gray. The second room, with dim lighting, plush leather armchairs with personal tv and audio, and chill out music, is where the hand and foot care happen.
That includes manicures and pedicures to maintain and repair, and all come with a hand or leg and foot massage. Then there are the novel premium treatments using ingredients ranging from citrus ale beer and tea tree oil for an exfoliant scrub to the signature Jack Hammer experience with Tennessee whisky and brown sugar. To set the mood, everyone is offered a choice of whisky, beer or espresso. All services are gender neutral, so women are welcome (no nail polish, gels, etc). Want to get on a regular maintenance schedule? They offer prepaid monthly memberships and series purchases that come with discounted services. Great idea for a gift. Prices for a manicure start at $25; pedicure starts at $25; haircuts, from $40, and premium treatments from $65.
Mr. W had the manicure and pedicure combo that impressed him for the moisturizing, hydrating and pampering hand, leg and foot massage, giving it five stars. The name Hammer & Nails might sound familiar to you, too. The first one opened in L.A., and it was started by Michael Elliot, who first presented the idea on the ABC show Shark Tank in 2014, and though he didn’t win, viewer support encouraged him to start the concept anyway. Hammer & Nails is located at 122 Buena Vista Boulevard, Miami, FL 33127. It is open Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
While you’re in Midtown, check out the Home Goods store, one of the better ones. We found great deals in quality kitchen equipment, very handsome artisanal serving platters made in Italy, Portuguese white ceramic plate service, and more. Also noticed that a Dick’s Sporting Goods store opened in the location of the former Sports Authority. Want a serious coffee? There’s Pasion del Cielo. How about a light bite that’s inexpensive and tasty? We liked Sakaya Kitchen. Would you believe they served us a kids meal (wish more restaurants would do that). Carrot Express, known for its healthy food options and dedicated following recently opened. It’s the third location, joining outposts in Miami Beach and Aventura.
