Speaking about film, I was disturbed to read that the City of Miami has declined to renew Miami Dade College’s management agreement of the Tower Theater in Little Havana. Also, the City has sent a termination letter to MDC which, if not revoked, would end their operation of the Tower Theater on January 2, 2023. According to the interim executive director of the Theater, Nicolas Calzada, there was no reason given for the termination and MDC has never relied on the city for funding. This can mean the end of cinema at the Tower for the foreseeable future, and if there’s new management, the end to the kind of world class cinema it has stood for. This would be a loss to the cultural community in Miami, a loss to Little Havana as many people go to see a film and stay for a meal and shop, thus having an economic impact, and maybe even a loss of an architectural icon if the Tower is demolished. If you want to voice your opinion, write to the mayor and city commissioners. Please find the public list of key city contacts HERE.

Topping the list for super special things to do in October:
Looking for a last minute trip idea, something different for an art lover? Rome Art Week is October 24 to 29. My client, the wonderful Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese near the famed Borghese Gardens and Spanish Steps has made it easy with their art week experience.
Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese, together with Kiki Beccaria and Christopher Daley deSarzana of Italian bespoke travel company DolceDiscovery, introduce a new Rome Art Week Experience for insider access.
To start, guests will visit the “Among the locales of the Baroque – Gagosian” exhibit. Next, they will experience “Lights, Shadows and… Neo-Gothic Nightmares,” a vernissage that includes an immersion into history and contemporary art on the Via Appia. Finally, they will be guided through “Eloquent Space” at a private artist’s studio in an intimate home gallery with a terrace view overlooking Rome. The tours, each lasting four hours, are divided into three moments – the story of the physical environments through crucial historical identity, contemporary art galleries and their vision, and the events being celebrated.

For those looking to venture beyond the city, an optional full day escape is available to visit a baroque villa with garden and water features accompanied by a contemporary art themed private garden. This “Land of Art and Artful Land” experience allows guests to enjoy autumn in Tuscia with the natural colors and foliage. A relaxing visit to a local natural hot spring can be added to follow the tour’s activities as an additional inclusion.
All activities include an English speaking guide, entrance fees and donations, and transportation. The new Rome Art Week package also includes a three-night stay at Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese, breakfast each day, and one dinner at the hotel’s rooftop Settimo Restaurant for two people.

Love the Rooftop cinema Karen. Went to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show last night on this wonderful outdoor screen, great headphone sound, Adirondack chairs (available in single or couples format) offering wine and snacks and a spectacular view of South Beach. Ideal with friends, a loved one or even a great first date idea!
