Mr. W has been raving about “hot” brand On sneakers for the past few years, ever since he discovered the Swiss footwear during a holiday in Greece. He talked about the comfort, the gentle color palette and artistic sensibility, the lightness and all round versatility. But I was unconvinced, until I read about a limited edition On Cloudnova Form that would be debuting during Art Basel Week Miami Beach, a collaboration with Art Basel and artist Pamela Rosenkranz . The design was inspired by Rosenkranz’s monumental work Old Tree, a 25 foot bright red and pink sculpture presently on view at The High Line in New York. The design is different, stylish and understated. Luckily I got to the Art Basel shop in time, as they sold out their 150 pair within an hour. But never fear, you can get them until they last at their new shop in The Design District and then online.
On’s brand name was inspired by the idea that wearers are running on clouds. They have models for high-performance running, outdoor, and all-day activities as well as clothing, hats, jackets, even socks. At one point they were the fastest growing athletic shoe brand in the US. And now, for those who know them and recognize them on the spot, owning them is like being in a club. Sure enough, when I tried them on, I felt like I was walking on clouds, loved the light weight, and the design that reminds me of coral.
Something about the shoe technology: The Cloudnova Form is a staple On shoe, rooted in running technology that is made to wear for everything and anything. The silhouette carries the typical On CloudTec® technology and features the Cloudnova signature heel webbing, technical stitching, clean design lines, perforated microfiber tongue, and 100% recycled polyester upper mesh. This model also includes a wider outsole distributing pressure from foot strikes, making iit comfortable for any occasion.
The newly opened shop in the Design District at 125 NE 40th Street, has a selection of over 30 kinds of shoes, along with the clothing. From today the limited edition model is available at the shop until supplies last, as well as at on.com and at other On Flagship Stores in NYC, Zurich, London, and Tokyo. For more information, click here.
The retail price of this Cloudnova Form is 170 USD. All models range in price from $129 for the all day CloudEasy to $199 for the performance tennis model.
And note that On has a 5K Run Club every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
