The shop’s net earnings each year are distributed to support community organizations and Plymouth Church. In recent years, distributions have exceeded $100,000 annually. Also, it’s a great place to snag a deal (Mr. W bought a lasagna pan here and I’ve scored with several pair of earrings). Donate your good-quality things by bringing them to the shop Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 4pm, or dropping them at Plymouth Congregational Church on Devon Road at 11 am on the third Sunday of any month following services or by appointment..For furniture donations, call 305.448.2114 as they will advise if they can accept the item. Thank you!
Hello. My name is Talia. I am moving to Miami FL in September.
I’m trying to find an affordable apartment and I’ll need a bed and kitchen supplies to make my meals such as pots and pans and other cook ware. Any suggestions or programs you have available or simple housing ideas that fit in to my small budget would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
An early welcome to Miami! If you don’t mind gently used, great places to find a bed and kitchen supplies are the not for profit organizations where people donate used furniture and household items. In fact, I just donated lots of kitchen pots and pans to Dragonfly Thrift Shop mentioned here in this link. https://bit.ly/3yhZxku
About affordable apartments, I’ll be seeing a realtor friend this evening and I’ll ask her. You readers out there who are real estate brokers, appreciate hearing your suggestions.
Hi again Talia, I checked with my realtor friend who said downtown Miami has some of the best deals. I would think you can find good deals in Kendall and Doral but they may not be geographically convenient depending on where you work.
I have sent three emails to Lotus House along with photographs of furniture I have for a donation: Queen Frame and mattress, dresser, Leather sofa bed, side table, Glass dinette set with 4 chairs, 2 folding room dividers, large glass desk. Lotus House has not answered my emails – any suggestions? Thank you for your help.
Sorry to hear it. Did you try calling? The number for pickups is the same main number so someone should answer and you can explain the issue.
I called once and was on hold for over 15 minutes – I finally hung up. Sad that they don’t have better people handling donations.
That can certainly be frustrating. At the same time, keep in mind that the many of the people who work there were once homeless and I would venture to guess that many have not worked. Maybe there needs to be more training.
I am remodeling and want to avoid adding to the land fill.
I have two refrigerators, a range, dishwasher, wall oven and stove top in Miami Beach.
I have tried numerous sites without success.
Can anyone suggest someplace that can come and get these items
Here’s some valuable information to consider about taxes and donations: ” Furniture,0riental rugs, china, glassware, designer clothes, good mens suits, all can be donated to a charity that will use it for at least 3 years. The donor can get a 49% tax deduction if they are in the 49% tax bracket and this can be much more than selling it at give away prices. They will receive a tax deduction for whatever tax bracket they are in.”
