Happy to share my “go to” list — proven discoveries during COVID-19 , “life saving finds” (figuratively not literally happily) of service providers— best Miami repair for home-related problems, and shopping tips that could be useful for you now or at some time in the future.

Since we’re all spending a lot more time at home, we discover things we need to change or have to change/repair because the appliances or whatever are working overtime. At the same time, this is probably the toughest time to get service people out, and supplies, because of the demand and supply lines. All the service providers listed I’ve used during this time and are reliable, punctual, a pleasure to deal with, and not the cheapest, but fairly priced given the quality of the service.

Miami AC Repair:

For air conditioner cleaning, repair and installation of UV lights as an extra bacteria filter —  Weathershield Air Conditioning. is the one. Note, though, that if you want the lights, it might be best to wait if possible as prices are higher now and there’s not the variety available.

Battery and Bulb Crisis:

Do you have what seems like fifty million different lights (especially the halogen variety) and batteries, especially for flashlights ? Go to one of the shops of Batteries and Bulbs at several locations around Miami. They also fix iphones so you can do a two-fer in saving time.

Miami Appliance Repair:

Appliance broken or need repair? I swear by Flamingo. They repaired my refrigerator and the price of the service call includes a free return visit within 30 days if needed. Just about any appliance they’ll repair, from the usual to outdoor gas grills and coffee machine. Ask for Freddy Jimenez. He’s tops and a delight.

Miami Appliance Dealer:

Getting a major new appliance these days within a week or two or even three is next to impossible. But if anyone can do it for you, Marcelin Home Appliance in Doral can, a family owned business since 1976. A friend has gotten a lot of high end appliances from them and swears by the quality and service. When I went there to check out a new refrigerator, they couldn’t have been more helpful and in the know and had ready to go models on the floor . 2787 NW 104th Court, Doral. Free parking.

Miami Construction Company:

I probably have company in not having had good success with construction companies except for now. A flood in the upstairs apartment necessitated my needing water mitigation and a rebuild of several rooms. Chubb recommended national firm Belfor and a friend who has standards used them as well. I couldn’t have been happier with their service — reliable, punctual, thorough even with their cleaning team, and they did a quality job (they’ve done work for a who’s who in town). They guarantee everything for two years.  And would you believe, after I wrote a thank you note to the CEO, I got a personal letter (by mail) from him thanking me. Class act.

Miami Rug Repair and More:

The flood caused damage in my oriental rugs. To the rescue, Grand Oriental Rug Gallery, this year marking 35 years in Miami. The owner, Tariq Sheikh, fourth generation in the business , really knows his business and did an excellent job of repair and restoration. They sell modern and antique rugs ranging from Persian and Tibetan carpets to Aubusson and also do custom designs. 383 Aragon Avenue, Coral Gables.

Do you have any service providers you swear by?
