Who’s ready for Miami Spice 2017? Bigger and better than ever, this year’s edition has 239 participating restaurants. The format is the same as always: for just $23 and $39, respectively, you can get three-course lunch and dinner menus from some of Miami’s top (and priciest!) restaurants. And new this year, brunch is also on the menu—diners can get a three-course brunch for just $23.This year we’ve taken a new spin on the promotion with not the usual players. So you’ll find new talked about places, a supper club, another top steakhouse you may want to try, a dining as party spot,  and even a solid choice for vegetarians.  While classics like Zuma, Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink, Milos, Palme d’Or and Red, the Steakhouse are all reliable options, newer hotspots like Brad Kilgore’s Alter and Michael Schwartz’ Fi’lia, and those listed below promise to show you a new side of the Magic City. Part 1 of a two part series.

Bazaar Mar by José Andrés

The brainchild of celebrity chef José Andrés, this five-star restaurant is all about seafood. Designed by Philippe Starck, Bazaar Mar is adorned in a sea of blue and white hues and whimsical painted tiles; a backdrop inspired by famous seaports from around the world. The food is as creative as the setting and the man behind it—expect imaginative twists on seafood plates like a California “Funnel Cake” made out of seaweed and blue crab, Marinated “Ferran Adria” Liquid Olives with green olives and piparra peppers, the Po Boy José! with fried baby squid on a steamed brioche bun. The restaurant’s most popular dish is on the Miami Spice menu, too. It’s called “Bagel and Lox,” is made with Russ and Daughters’ smoked salmon and air bread, and looks like little fish swimming in the sea. Bazaar Mar by José Andrés is located at 1300 South Miami Avenue, Miami, FL 33130. Miami Spice Dinner is available Monday through Friday, starting at 6 p.m. Hotel valet is available.

Baoli

Bâoli

Go for dinner and you’ll be impressed; stay for the party afterwards, and this sophisticated French lounge will blow your mind. A haven for Miami’s most beautiful people—with a vanishing glass wall, grand crystal chandeliers, plush banquets and, after the sun goes down, a DJ booth—this sexy indoor-outdoor spot is an anomaly. Even though it’s French, it serves up elevated Asian cuisine; so when you go for Miami Spice, you’ll get plates like Golden Crispy Prawns with spicy aioli, Salmon Tartare Taquitos, Korean Spicy Lamb with cucumber wasabi, and Pad Thai Seafood with prawns and mussels. Bâoli is located at 1906 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33139. Miami Spice Dinner is available Tuesday through Saturday, starting at 7 p.m. Valet parking is available, and public parking lots are within walking distance.

Dashi

Dashi

Brushing the edge of the Miami River, on site at River Yacht Club, this dazzling restaurant is where Miami’s finest go to get Michelin-level Japanese cuisine. Led by Chef Shuji Hiyakawa, a protégé of Iron Chef Masahuru Morimoto and a descendant of three generations of Udon makers, the food is progressive. Go for lunch or dinner during Miami Spice, and you’ll get to choose from plates like Cha-Soba Salad, Beef or Seafood Udon, Sashimi, Green Tea Ice Cream and Coconut Panna Cotta. Dashi is located at 401 SW 3rd Avenue, Miami, FL 33130. Miami Spice Lunch is available Saturday and Sunday, starting at Noon; and Dinner is available Wednesday through Sunday, starting at 6 p.m. Valet parking is available at River Yacht Club.

El Tucan Supper Club

El Tucán

It’s not everyday you see a Miami supper club with a discounted prix-fixe menu, but lucky for us, Brickell’s sexy El Tucán is participating in Miami Spice. At this place, you’ll get a vintage Cuban feast with a Latin cabaret show. While the 1940s-era singers serenade you, munch on plates like Tostones con Ceviche de Wahoo with guacamole, Ahi Tuna Taquitos, prime rib skewers of Anticucho de Res, Matcha Green Tea Molten Lava Cake and more. El Tucán is located at 1111 SW 1st Avenue, Miami, FL, 33130. Miami Spice Dinner is available Thursday through Saturday, starting at 7:30 p.m. Valet parking is available and public parking garages are in walking distance.

The Cake Stand at Quality Meats

Quality Meats

When it comes to steakhouses on the Miami Spice menu, this NYC staple is one of our old favorites—and in this year’s Spice roundup, it deserves to be mentioned. Started by the same family who opened the first Smith & Wollensky in the 1970s, Quality Meats Miami Beach isn’t your average steakhouse experience. Instead of classic steaks and potatoes (which you can still get, by the way), think Seafood Charcuterie Plate with smoked salmon rillette and scallop mortadella, House-Cured Slab Bacon with peanut butter and jalapeño jelly, and Wagyu Brisket “Pastrami” with Zak the Baker bread and spicy coleslaw. Then, end it on a sweet note with desserts like the Burnt Marshmallow Dressed Up Scoop: burnt marshmallow ice cream piled high with chocolate fudge, chocolate chunks and bits of graham cracker. Quality Meats is located at 1501 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33139. Miami Spice Dinner is available every night of the week, starting at 6 p.m. Valet parking is available at the Bancroft Hotel.
