A “must stop” for clothes whenever I’ve gone to Madrid over the years has always been Purificacion Garcia ,and my closet tells the tale. I like their contemporary takes on classics, casually elegant clothes that go well from day to evening, and their feminine blouses. So I was delighted to see that they haven’t been a retail fatality of COVID-19. The shop is in the Village of Merrick Park next to Jimmy Choo.
This is a place to put on your list if you’re looking for a well made fashion basic with quiet flair, and for the quality, very well priced (look more expensive than they are).
Men, too, have their section with European style cotton classic sport shirts, Euro t-shirts, polos and sweaters , chinos and a small selection of suits. There’s also a small but well curated selection of men’s wallets and watches.
Half of the shop is devoted to leather handbags which I was told are the big seller here. I can understand why. They’re very good quality leather, updated classics, and again, well priced, from $120 to $360. Also worth checking out are the colorful floral silk and linen shawls from $118 to $138.
Also, in case you haven’t been there, while you’re in the neighborhood you may want to check out Filomena Fernandez. The clothes by this Venezuelan designer who studied in Japan are more fashion forward as they say, but also worth a visit (read my earlier post).
