Fashion Spotting: Miami Swim Week 2017

Australian designer Camilla is hot, hot, hot, sold at Saks Fifth Avenue and Intermix among others. Besides clothing now they’re doing accessories and home decor.

Miami Swim Week 2017 closes today and it was bigger and better than ever with runway shows, exhibits and parties galore. What may surprise you is that this is the most prominent swim week in the US. Events were centered in Miami Beach, at the Convention Center, hotels, and in tents in Collins Park, but satellite parties and fashion shows were also held in other spots around town, from the Design District to Brickell City Center. Not only were there bathing suits and beach wear for men and women, but beauty products (tanning lotions, suntan creams, bikini wax), accessories, gift items,  and even beverage (e.g. passion fruit liqueur from the Dominican Republic, Rose wine, a soft drink in a can that lights up and flashes). Designers from Bali and Copenhagen to Brazil, Mustique and Latin America were represented. Here’s a photo gallery of some of my favorite pieces. Note that the fashions are the Spring 2018 collections so will be in the shops late this year.

A big hit at La Cabana show were the handmade straw clutches and totes including one shaped like a pineapple, from Aranaz, made in the Phillipines.

You seldom see rose gold metallic wear, so hats off to Heroine Sport for the bomber jacket and shorts — be the best dressed in your boxing class.

Many of the most attractive pieces were from Brazilian designers like this combo from Evarae.

This two piece model seen at Peroni’s launch party at the Edition, by Ola Feroz, was a crowd pleaser — love those stripes. And by the way, we had lunch at the Market in the hotel and the spinach and three cheese pizza was to die for.

Count on Adriana de Greas also from Brazil to have glam pieces — from swim and beach to lounge wear. She opened a dedicated shop last year on Sunset Avenue in South Miami that recently relocated to the Village of Merrick Park. Here’s my earlier writeup.

One of the sexiest models I saw was this turquoise metallic model by Karma Bikinis, seen at the Planet Fashion runway show at the SLS Hotel.

Yet another Brazilian designer, Patbo, had these all the rage transparent tops in black and white with embroidery and beading. They come with a slip top.

A fun, flirty blouse and skirt combo from Petersyn.

As you’ve probably guessed by now, tropical florals were much in evidence. You can always count on Stella McCartney for  some great pieces in swimwear and athleisure. Especially liked this swimsuit.

While at Brickell City Centre came across Pinko, a new Italian import. Check out this handbag….did they get the Miami sensibilities right or what?

Litup, it’s all about the packaging in fluorescent colors. Totally cool.
