Affordable, stylish, European fashion isn’t easy to find in Miami fashion boutiques. Enter Spaniard Beatriz Carrillo for whom fashion is a passion, who decided it was time to bring some of Europe’s finer, lesser known designers to the Magic City. So Carrillo opened her own boutique, Pool Lab Show, at 376 Miracle Mile in Coral Gables, bringing select pieces from each of her favorite designers in Spain, France, Italy, Hungary, Portugal, and the Netherlands. Carrillo has an eye for fashion that is at once contemporary, classic, feminine, and very wearable.Designers include Cortana and Juan Vidal, the designers of choice of the rich and famous and Dona Letizia, the Queen of Spain and wife of Prince Phillip; Pomandere, the very popular Vanessa Bruno, and Roseanna from France; Angel Schlesser, Alvarno, Ailanto and Roberto Torreta of Spain; along with Nanushka from Budapest.
There are casual, neutral color tops in interesting textures and details – a suede pocket and collar here, fringes there, or perhaps a ruffle positioned assymetrically- that give a basic that extra interest and zip. Or my favorite, a classic white blouse with orange and lace sleeves, the pattern repeated as the entire back panel. One line, Majestic from France, was selected by Oprah as her favorite brand of casual attire. Find the same with jackets, such as one given fashion flair with a zipper that makes it double as a short or three quarter length jacket in a combo of fabric and weave.
But the fashion here isn’t just about the casual. There are wonderful short and jacket or blouse tops in sequins and boucles that work for day or evening.
The fashion also shines with cocktail dresses in form fitting silk that drop to an assymetrical flounce, or another standout of black lace with colorful floral appliques. Floor length silk or jersey gowns recall the glamour of the movie stars of the 3o’s with sensual draping, slits, and backs that fall into flattering folds.
There’s also a well curated selection of leather and basket weave handbags and totes, cotton and linen scarves that can serve as shawls, shoes, and costume jewelry. There are just a few of each piece, so you can be relatively confident you won’t see others wearing the same thing at your next evening out or charity gala.
Given the quality and design, prices are reasonable. Tops start at over $100 and dresses range from $600 to $3000. Leather goods start at $350.
And when you’re in the neighborhood, treat yourself to a homemade gelato or dairy free and fat free sorbet at VIXI right next door. Everything is made right there on the premises and you’ll find original flavors like ricotta with orange zest, baked apple with cinnamon (made from organic Fuji apples), and Kefir with coconut oil. My favorites though were the traditional standbys, albeit of the highest quality: the dark chocolate made with 73% cacao from the Dominican Republic and vanilla made with real vanilla bean.
