This month brings new finds in everything from a valuable tech repair source, major update on the Underline, the Air Bnb of boats and exciting culture and entertainment choices including the new Nader Art Museum on Lincoln Road Mall, to a great gift idea and the glam new Baccarat BBar and Lounge in the Design District.
Check out the new Nader Art Museum on Lincoln Road Mall. It’s part of the big plans The Business Improvement District of Lincoln Road Mall has in store for a revival of the mall that includes art and cultural events and performances. New World Symphony, a member of BID, will be involved as well. Judging from the kickoff of their events, what BID will be doing is quality. In time for Art Basel, what they call the Nader Art Museum by prominent Miami dealer Gary Nader, has been installed on the Mall. We’re talking 14 oversize bronze statues by internationally reknowned Fernando Botero.
The sculptures, signed, numbered, and described as “mint condition”, have a total insured value of $41 million. Male Torso is the heaviest but not the most valuable at $3.2 million. That honor goes to Ballerini, (2001, edition number 3/3) which is valued at $4 million. Nader is president of the Gary Nader Art Centre, a 55,000 square-foot building in Wynwood, where he presents exhibitions showcasing important artists from around the world. The building also doubles as the temporary home of Nader’s Museum of Latin Art, a $900 million project he envisions will showcase Latin American art and culture. The sculptures will be installed through March 31, 2020.
Not clear about what the Underline is all about? After hearing the presentation about it recently, I finally grasped the impressive scope of the project and frankly, felt civic pride, an all too infrequent feeling these days. The 10 mile project which starts at the Miami River downtown and goes to the Dadeland South Station is in seven stages. The project lead on stage one in the Brickell area is none other than James Corner Field Operations who did New York’s internationally acclaimed High Line. Stage one is scheduled to be completed by June 2020. When all is completed there will be an 8 wide bike path and pedestrian paths, sports court with everything from basketball and soccer to a running path, four butterfly gardens, dog park, area for meditation and yoga and more. Mobile food carts will provide refreshment and there’s also a stage for art and cultural presentations. Plus, there’s WIFI throughout.

You better believe I’m going to check the glam new Baccarat Boutique BBar and Lounge in the Design District. You’d expect the sparkling chandeliers, dazzling cut crystal glassware and such, but how about sorbet colored chairs and art? The boutique opens at 11 a.m., offering coffee, tea, pastries and light lunch followed by afternoon tea with a ladies’ favorite — dessert tier with petits fours. Cocktail time and the bar promises not to disappoint, with signature cocktails, champagne, wine and what they call the B Experience. You choose your glass, spirit and flavor profile, and the bartender will create a custom cocktail. Baccarat Boutique BBar and Lounge, 140 N.E. 39th Street.
