Museum gift shops have become “go to” places for unusual items, everything from jewelry and kitchenware to pieces for entertaining and even the office. But who would have expected to find this buried treasure — wine glass designs — handsome, whimsical and inspired by the sea — at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center in Key Biscayne. There were so many wonderful wine glass designs that it was difficult to choose. And the price isn’t exorbitant — $28 each. Claudia, the Assistant Director of the Center told me that the ladies in Key Biscayne collect them, use them at dinner parties, and have their personal totem for the evening (someone’s a turtle, another a jellyfish, etc). And it’s a great way to keep track of which glass is yours.
If you pay a visit from now through April 30 you can check those fabulous wine glass designs in person and also take in the wonderful exhibit of paintings by renowned abstract artist Larry Poons (see my earlier blogpost). And then of course there’s always the walking trails, marsh walks and the pristine beach. Also coming up is a nifty Plein Air Workshop in painting on the beach, Feb.3 to 20, given by Andrew Petrov who is coming from France.
