What do you do when your portable GPS goes on the blink and you don’t have one in your car, especially when you’re driving in unfamiliar territory? It’s not a problem if you have Waze, a fabulous travel and traffic app that’s free. With good reason Google is buying it for over $1 Billion. I hadn’t realized that Waze which I wrote about before as a way to avoid traffic (see earlier post below), also worked for navigation. I just found that out when I was in the suburbs of Cincinnati and desperate. You just put in the address of your final destination and it takes it from there. It’s voice activated so will speak the directions to you. And not only that, it alerts you on the screen when there’s police nearby, an accident on the road, traffic jams and more. It’s very user friendly, too. You’ll love it.
My earlier post:
How would you like someone to tell you the fastest route to your destination with traffic updates in real time, info on road hazards and accidents? And how about a map indicating parking and cheap gas stations? If your answer is “yes”, then download a free app to avoid traffic called “Waze” that works on the iPhone and Android. We tried it last weekend — the ultimate test, Saturday night in South Beach during the Food and Wine Festival (alright, more of a test would have been Art Basel). It indicated that all routes onto South Beach were clear (they were). Then, on the way home, it showed that Alton Road was clear but to steer clear of Collins Avenue around the W Hotel. There are other uses of the app, but that’s a level I’m not going to nor does one need to. Definitely worth checking out.
