Not only international retail brands but also major shows and fairs are following the lead of Art Basel and holding their prestigious shows in Miami, serving as a nexis for the Americas. The latest entrant is the renowned, Paris headquartered Maison & Objet that describes itself as “the premiere arbiter of global luxury in the home market”. And a look at the 340 exhibitors, 20 conference topics and speakers such as David Rockwell, the Campana Brothers and Karim Rashid will literally have you drooling.
In its 20th year, Maison & Objet branched out to Singapore for an Asian show and this year, from May 12 to 15 it will call Miami home at the Convention Center. The four day event is primarily for the trade, but the afternoon of the 15th is for the public, offering access to the exhibition hall with exhibitors representing top luxury names in areas ranging from furniture, lighting and garden to wellness/bath, textiles ,children’s world and more. With the “new price of luxury”, homes priced at $40 million as a standard asking price for high end real estate ( Wall Street Journal), it’s not surprising that products and services for the top home market are thriving.
Probably most intriguing, though, about the show are what promises to be thought provoking talks such as one by Ganail Bascoul, CEO of SoonSoonSoon.com (don’t you love the name!) , a trend forecasting agency, on “How the Crowd will Change the World” (open to the public).
Others that caught my eye are for the trade including; “Working with Art in Interiors and Landscape Design”, “Global Retail: Beauty, Creativity and New Influences”, “The State of Materials” and “The Evolving Bathroom”. And nothing short of inspiring promises to be one of the keynote addresses by Dror Benshetrit on what it means to be a dreamer and how dreams can be utilized to provoke visionary ideas.
The design and arts industry in the city will be going all out as you can imagine with special pop up displays at museums and galleries, events at showrooms in the Design District, DCOTA, and Ironside ( cocktails and parties as well, by invitation only)
Admission to the public is $35 for the afternoon. For tickets and more information, click here.
