Sure. This blog is about Miami. But living in Miami sometimes we need to fly out of Fort Lauderdale. Such was the case last week when I was in Fort Lauderdale for a meeting and the easiest thing to do was to catch a plane to New York from FTL. Bad luck. My airport time there coincided with lunch and I was hungry, a situation I try to avoid given the lack of choices and mediocre ones at best (often I’ll bring a sandwich, but no time that morning). Lunch ended up being an ice cold chicken Caesar salad with packaged ,chemical- laden dressing. The culinary pain was eased with a glass of wine (passable). Fast forward to New York’s JFK for an American Airlines flight and Bobby Van’s, lunchtime, waiting for my return flight to Miami. A tough choice — deciding between the swordfish or Atlantic salmon, both served on a bed of sauteed baby spinach (the steaks are excellent as well) . Opted for the salmon which couldn’t have been fresher or tastier, also served with crisp, just fried shoestring potatoes, washed down with a glass of perfectly chilled Pinot Grigio. Now that’s what I call civilized.
