Brisky business

A news release on a new burger place appeared in my emails and my first reaction was, not another one claiming to be the best burgers Miami. We were looking for a quick bite and were in Coral Gables, so we went to check out BurgerFi, 136 Miracle Mile (T.305-967-8260). After one bite of their current special, Brisky Business, a double burger made of juicy short ribs and brisket and garnished with housemade tomato candied bacon jam, lettuce, tomato, sharp white cheddar cheese, all on a toasted potato bun, I was loving it.

Then there was the chicken apple hot dog – crunchy skin, spicy taste, and oh so flavorful, on a poppy seed bun with homemade mustard. OMG. The two are guaranteed to be on my best dishes of 2015 list. And it gets better, like the fact that the dogs and burgers are under $10, no small thing as I was reminded by Mr.W in this age of $20 – $30 gourmet burgers. (note we also tried the cheeseburger and kobe style beef dog which were good, but not in the same category). Take note, though. Brisky Business is a special that’s offered until April 11. Hopefully they’ll extend its availability since Jorge Caroli, manager in Coral Gables, said he’s selling as many as 100 a day.

The Delray-headquartered BurgerFi has 80 stores after just four years. Their points of difference are the quality of their ingredients (no hormones, additives or antibiotics in their meats); build your own burgers with 10 different garnishes and 11 condiments including Peter Luger sauce and garlic aioli; a “conflicted burger” – one beef and one veggie pattie; and desserts based around frozen custards. We tried the chocolate “concrete” with  peanut butter, brownies and chips. It was good, but the winner was the vanilla, just naked – super creamy, and so dense the spoon could easily stand up on it.

A wider range of beverages than the usual burger place include real cane sugar sodas, fresh squeezed lemonade and strawberry lemonade, craft beer and wine. There’s also –you guessed it – shakes, malts and floats.

They’re proud of the fact that all furnishings are made of recycled, sustainable materials. Seating is on low and high top tables indoors or outdoors on Miracle Mile.

Looking for a further deal? Friday from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. craft beers are 50% off (note, promotions vary by location). Corporate wide there’s another promotion until April 19. Order online delivery by downloading their new app and receive 25% off your first order.  For other Burgerfi locations click here.
