With smartphones the can’t -live- without- them accessory, the wristwatch is passing from something practical and a fashion piece to a primary place as a piece of jewelry. (a totally different category is the Apple Watch but that’s another topic). Not surprising then, that there are stunning watches out there, for women and men. One of the more dramatic ones I’ve seen of late is a watch that stands alone – no bracelets needed or desirable.
It’s Swiss fine jeweler deGrisogono’s Grappoli collection of watches in gold with precious stones, five different models with amethysts, emeralds, blue or orange sapphires or white diamonds. Grappoli – which in Italian means a bunch or cluster, usually of grapes ,is the fruit of deGrisogono’s expert gem-setters and artisan stone cutters who cut and set every one of over 1000 stones by hand.
The creation process starts with the careful selection of each stone to find the right colors and size of the briolettes for composition and balance. The delicate snow-setting on the dial and bezel is framed by a double row of gently moving briolette-cut gemstones. The briolettes are selected one-by-one, set and fitted to make the grapes move smoothly, jiggling on the wrist. Prices range from over $96,000 for the amethyst model to $994,000 for the 18K white gold watch with white diamonds.
DeGrisogono is in Bal Harbour Shops.
And speaking of watches, if you want any repaired, check out the “Watch Doctor” at Kirk Jewelers in downtown Miami. They do a top notch job.
